I'm not apposed to small gym representation but like you said Tamara I don't want some random that has no knowledge of the sport ganging up and voting. The problem is everyone thinks they could do a better job but MOST don't get involved and take the right steps.
I was one of those that voted like Kristen pointed out and I am PISSED my vote meant nothing but I've been outspoken about it and I've spoken my frustrations to the right people in the right venues. My hopes are that it will change.
Do I think IEP's will do a better job, no. Do I think small gyms will do a better job, no. I think an equal representation as well as some representation from Doctors, Safety specialist as well.

I think a controlled vote, if its straight up vote, small gym has the most power. No, no, no.

Here it is:

But if it were just me, the USASF would be responsible for Age Grid, Safety Rules and Warm Up Standards, which would stick to a 2 year cycle that would be voted on by the Member Gym Owners. Everything else can be done better by someone else.

and few rules on the actual voting-
Gym has to have been in business for 3+ years
and a break down of how each gyms vote counts
15 votes per gym
#Athletes/75 (i.e. if your gym has 250 allstars you would have 3.33 votes + 15 votes for a total of 18.33 votes)

your vote number x 10 would be your membership fee. Which should be more than adequate to facilitate the vote and run a website with a list of member gyms, Sanctioned Competitions, the Age Grid, the Rules, and the warm up standards and a few salaries to keep it up.

Thought I would explain this a bit further.

If you've been in business for 3+ years, you at least have a clue about what's going on and how to run a business and you've experienced at least 2 rules cycles. and it prevents some random schmuck to who decided on a whim to start a cheer gym from having a vote yet.

Large gyms represent more kids in addition to that they probably have a pretty good idea about what works since they have that many kids. Sorta like the house of reps and the senate.

I agree with the gym vote breakdown. My point was appointing board members.
-Large gym
-Medium gym
-Small gym
-Varsity
-Jambrands
-IEP
-2 different apparel Reps
-A safety specialist
-A Doctor

I feel like I'm just copying and pasting my earlier posts, but here you go:

Athlete id can be done better by Youthsportsid.com
Training can be done better by gyms sharing with each other
Worlds can be done better by an EP
PR can be done better by the gyms within their own communities
Scholarships can be done within gyms
the Current Credentialing is a joke and could be done better by something else (perhaps the ASGA)
What else does the USASF do?

What about competition companies outside of Varsity, Jambrands and the IEP? What's the point of Apparel Reps? Why should clothing companies be involved in the governing of our sport? How do you decide large vs medium vs small? why not just a straight vote using my vote allocation system?

I agree that all of this could be done this way.
I agree with you about the ID
I agree that sharing btw gyms would be great but it isn't always an option. There should be a standard. (With that being said the current coaches credentialing might be the biggest joke in cheerleading) I think it should be a hands on review process.
I agree that PR for a program should be done in house, but WHO is responsible for PR for "cheerleading". When major issues arise, someone has to do something, I don't trust all gyms to do this in house.
Scholarships are able to be done in house, this is additional, I don't see the problem.
The USASF hosts the World Championships, the most prestigious event in cheerleading.

If they aren't one of those three they don't fall within the USASF sanctioning so they have no place to vote IMO. An apparel rep should have a voice because our image is important (but pointless if USASF only controlled what you recommended, I was stating under our current system).
Small 100, Medium 300 Large 300+.
I think those should be who is on the board. I like your system to vote on rules the board recommends.

World's being the most prestigious is debatable, and from what I hear(never been) one of the most poorly ran events.

What PR has the USASF done? They've had bad PR with the March Mess. They helped produce the Be an Allstar campaign a few years back, but you had to pay to use it and pay to get it on air.

You can't be all things to everyone-
Stick to comp rules, age grids, (there should be warm up standards) and an Athlete ID system that functions like I posted earlier.

to me Doctors, Safety People and Clothing companies could perhaps be consultants or serve an advisory roll, but EPs and Gym Owners are the ones that together should be deciding things that affect the sport and our businesses.

Haha, World isn't the most prestigious? For level 5 some may like NCA or ATL but that is the ONLY comp where you face everyone in your level. So you can debate all you want, I've been, and coached winners at all events so minus College Nationals, there is no comparison, NCA is close but isn't Worlds.
I'm not saying they are doing everything right, but I believe a singular governing body is needed to represent the industry.

I feel doctors and safety people should 100% be involved in stating our rules on what is and isn't risky. Also, my hopes are that statistics will determine what is safe and I trust a doctor more than any gym owner in the country. If image isn't part of the control then Clothing can be out but if image is important than I feel they should be able to speak.
