hello and thanks in advance for the help. My daughter injured her patellar tendon last season, and now that's she's hitting her first major growth spurt since the injury (she 10 1/2) it's causing her extreme discomfort. I've wrapped her knee in an ace bandage, making it tighter over the patellar tendon for maximum support, but I'd like to get her a knee brace she can easily apply herself CORRECTLY for when she needs the additional support. My biggest problem is I can't find anything local in a small enough size, which has turned my such to online, but most of these things only advertise a maximum knee size, where u need the minimum.

Her knee measures just over 12 inches around her knee cap when it's bent at a 45 degree angle.

Suggestions please!

My CP can't find one small/tight enough to work. She uses pre warp (buy it at Academy) and makes her own patellar tendon straps.

Update, took her to the orthopedic after care, and shes got swelling on the growth plate at the top of her leg. They arnt really sure what it's from, except that it shouldn't be there (duh) and she needs to follow up tomorrow with the specialist

Did they tell you what they think it is....hopefully something even less although in the scheme of things Osgood-schalger can be a quicker recovery than a lot of knee injuries. Thinking of you guys.

Patellar tendonitis, at the ripe old age of 10

I think it's tendonitis, and the start of OSG....either on its own suck, but together are a nightmare. She literally couldn't walk the pain was so bad, but luckily is starting to feel better now. She's also the proud owner of every knee brace known to man....

My 10 year old experienced the same symptoms earlier in the summer. The ortho told her to wear a patella tendon strap and a lot of ibuprofen daily. I was worried about the amounts of ibuprofen, but three different doctors okay'd it. The doctor and physical therapist also told her to ice for 15 minutes after each practice. They say this should end when she stops growing. I hope your daughter is feeling better. Good luck.

I was thinking we should start a thread for youth athletes with growth tendon issues. I have one right now and on her team there are at least 3 others. She has friends who are elite gymnast and soccer players and they are in the exact same boat. The growth along with the intensity these sports require really seem to do a number.
