We are under 1 month until our first comp. I was hoping the schedules were going to be released 4 weeks out. Any comps yet releasing schedules early?

I’ve found that only the major ones put it out so early. Every once in a while I get lucky. Most release block schedules early, but the schedule is released within the week of. I’m hoping they change that this year on those smaller comps

It's really annoying that small comps can't get their schedules out earlier than the week of. Its really getting annoying! If WSF, Cheersport NCA can get theirs up weeks in advance then everyone should be able to. IMO a general schedule is not enough when trying to plan because i have found that the GS doesn't always match up to the PO once finally posted

I was hoping with the push to have the schedules out sooner, the smaller ones would follow suit.

I’m shocked! Last year they refused to post online, we had to get it from the coaches a few days beforehand

I used to work for an EP. I'll tell you that the reason it's VERY difficult to put out accurate schedules early out is that so many gyms wait until the last minute to fully register or pay. A smaller event isn't going to turn teams away at the last minute because it's extra profit for them, extra competition for you. Some bigger events cap their registration, so after a certain point, they know who is coming and can forecast properly.

If EP's take double teaming into account, how much time is usually given between performances? CP & friend are on 2 teams and currently have 15 mins in between, on different floors. It's early though so will hopefully change.

A regional EP (non Varsity event) has taken imo an extreme position in the issue of releasing schedules.

"General Schedules are posted 2 weeks prior to each event.
General schedules will continue to be posted online. Due to the request of many coaches, directors and gym owners, order of performances will be provided only to the contact person for registration for each team and not posted until the day of the event with the link on the home page. Please contact your coach for your schedule."

I can not think of why gym owners, coaches, directors who are confident in the product that they put on the floor, would not want people to know who they will be competing against. Families literally find out the day of the event. Many people believe it infantalises and insults the paying customers.

I believe situations like this are a contributing factor in why people do not consider cheer a sport. In no other sport that I am aware of, is the competition kept secret. There are pre-game shows for many televised sports where the merits of each team are discussed. Knowing and anticipating the competition is part of the experience of sports.

I don't think it's so much that they don't want anyone to know who they are competing against. It's more that when the schedule is released publicly, some parents will take it upon themselves to start assuming situations (decide on a report time to share with everyone) or take the very first schedule that is released as final fact rather than checking to see if any changes have been made. It's a very tiny portion of parents that do this, but 1 or 2 in each gym who overstep their boundaries and use the schedule to do so are the ones who spoil it for everyone.

Additionally, a lot of EPs have started to leave teams off the schedule or cover their name until the gym has paid in full... and there are a lot of gyms that do not finalize their registration or pay in full until the last possible minute. Gyms might request that the schedule isn't put up so that their business mismanagement isn't shown to all the parents.

Either way... it's not about the competition, in my opinion.

I actually don’t like to hand out warm up times to my teams. They get a report time and a performance time (Which means most people can figure out an approximate warm-up time anyhow but…). I build contingency into the report time and not giving the exact warm up time prevents the couple of parents who say oh we don’t warm up until such and such a time, we dont have to be at report time quite so early. Yes, it has happened to me. Yes, it gives me a heart attack. Report when I say so and allow me to breath a little easier. So I will announce a report time, a performance time, and I will usually tell the kids who are going against and how many teams are in our division.

High school coach here by the way.

I just stopped coaching after D2 summit this past season but this is always what we did. We had a report time (check in with the team mom or manager at x time so we know you are physically present in the building), meet time (coaches take you away to stretch and get ready for warmup), and performance time listed on schedule. Actual warmup time was never given to parents.
