All-Star The Champions Cup 2013? Anyone?

Our gym is a host gym. My understanding of how this will work is that any interested atheletes from the surrounding area, no matter who they cheer for, can try out to be a part of the teams we are taking down there. You do not commit the the host gym for anything other than being a part of that team and when it is over, its over. You return to your home gym for your season. We will be having practice on the weekend as to try and not interfere with atheletes home gyms practice schedules. I do think the word is just not as widely spread as it should be. I mean we have a ton of great gyms around and no one has particularly heard of this event. If it runs smoothly it will definitely be an epic experience as I love the idea of it : )

To me it sounds like an unnecessary and trivial way to get parents to shell out more money for their kid to participate in an already expensive activity.

I think that the interest (esp this first go round) will be so low that its going to have a come one, come all mentality. No real prestige....just the people whose checks cleared...and the people that want their Suzie to feel like shes better and more talented than every one else


I can think of better ways to spend $575 + travel expenses. Just saying.

What qualifys a program to be a host gym?

I'm from so cal and our host gym is a program I've never even heard of? After trying to do research I can't seem to find any info on the program, who runs it, who the coaches are, or any of the above. They don't even have contact info on their website. I don't think I feel comfortable sending any if my athletes to train with someone i know nothing about at a program that I know nothing about.

FierceinTeal - I don't think host gym status has anything to do with coach staff. Our gym is a host gym but last I checked, our coach has said no to coaching and they do not know who will be coaching. Not sure what requirements there are for being a host gym.

We were thinking of having CP try out since the host gym isn't far from where we live. But what if their are not many other youth aged kids that are her level that try out.... I don't want to pay the money to have her on a team where she wont be challenged! This is very questionable and I don't know what to do

My same concern. I also don't want to pay that money and travel if there isn't any competition and I'm afraid that's exactly what will happen. I'm waiting out this year to see how it goes and if it picks up more steam.

Ya, as much as I want CP to have the opportunity etc, I think we may wait this year out!

I'm just feeling like there's not been a great response (surely not to have 50 teams in every division) that I feel like there will be a spattering of teams among various divisions which means (likely) little to no competition across ALL divisions.
