Work Will Win When Wishing Won’t.
These six simple words are the difference between contenders and pretenders. We are right in the middle of competition season, and it is so important to remember that champions are made at practice.
If you are a high school competitive cheerleader, you probably attended a regional and maybe even received a bid for nationals. All Star Cheerleaders have been competing at various local competitions, and it’s time to start competing on the national stage. If you have already received your bid to the competition you have been working for, great! However, now is not the time to rest. While you are relaxing, your competition is working to win the title.
Around the holidays, it is so easy to just lie around since school is out. Just because school ended doesn’t mean cheerleading did! Even if you don’t have practice, you should still be conditioning and eating right. Sure, it’s okay to indulge every now and then over the holidays, but remember you need to keep your body in competition shape! Find a friend and make a pact to push each other to work out and eat right over the holidays. Try to go to some tumbling classes if possible so you are still confident in your skills when you come back. There is nothing more frustrating than not being up to par in your skills when you return to practice.
Now that you have your bid, it’s not time to relax. It’s time to step it up. Slowly start adding in more difficult elements that will positively influence your scores. Remember that execution is the key to success, and only compete skills you know you can hit 10 out of 10 times! Bring something to the table that no one else has done yet. If you are in high school, the new inversion rules give you so much room for creativity in your stunts, so come up with something that will “WOW” everyone! This is your time to make a difference in your season. Don’t just hope to win the title, WORK to win the title when others won’t.
