I have an athlete trying out for a college and the college is asking for an arabesque with a 540 cradle. What is that exactly

Arabesque 540 is basically a full down. The flyer squares her hips to the front in the pop and fulls down from there.
You may want to check the wiki/directory for a complete breakdown or find a video.
 
If it's co-ed, make sure the appropriate grip is used by the guy. UCA is usually torch grip, NCA is lib grip.
 
Its a full down to the front from a side facing stunt (arabesque,scale, scorpion etc.)

Why are they called 540?
Because you are coming down from a side facing stunt. So the 360 is obviously the full twist but the other 180 degrees is because the flyer needs to square their hips to the front before twisting.
