heard this one this week...

"I'm not sure if I'll be at practice tomorrow. I need to stay home and prepare to watch Dance Moms."

I honestly thought she was kidding.....until she didn't show up the next day and posted to her facebook "Dance Moms MIAMI!!!!!" right after we got home from the practice she missed. (which by the way, didn't start until AFTER practice was over...I'm not terribly sure what one has to do to "prepare" to watch a tv show?)

You cannot make this stuff up.

In the 7 years my cp has been cheering, she has only missed 1 single practice. That was her 3rd year and her brother had a recital at school. Sorry but family is first. It just happened to fall on a practice night this time. Any other time we've been lucky and it was on a different night. She even made it to tryouts a week and a half after having her appendix out! She couldn't tumble but she made it! lol

My son came to practice hopped up on hydrocodone from being attacked by a doberman the night before. Nothing like 30 stitches to the face and his whole right side swollen shut. He came and sat to watch his team (clearly couldn't participate) and made half of them cry...his tumbling coach couldn't take it. Had to turn and walk off he couldn't hold it together that his "baby" got mauled.

he should've seen me in the ER.

What a trooper!!

"I can't practice *cough cough* I'm sick..." right....

"The drive is too far." -you live 5 minutes away.

"I'm grounded".....I can't stand this. Parents shouldn't hold their athletes away from practice as punishment. Come up with other punishment that doesn't effect the team, please.

"I had a wedding to go to today and missed school too." -I'd buy it, but your status says "school today was sooo lame"

Why would you want to miss practice? Competitions are won at practice, you being absent slows the teams progress. Not to mention your team is like your family...

My mom tries to ground me from practice. I honestly don't understand it. Especially if it's not even something big. When people get grounded from practice for grades, maybe they need to reevaluate how they're spending their time- and even choose if they can fully commit to a team (next season, of course), or need to focus on school. But it's not fair to the TEAM and doesn't teach your child anything to ground them from practice. It's just not beneficial whatsoever. One person missing practice can mean a wasted practice for MANY other girls. My mom tried to tell me I wasn't going to a competition once because I talked back.... You can imagine how hard I laughed at THAT.

I would have been a mess. As a mom and a coach. Poor kid! ^^what a trooper is right!

These are seriously so funny.. I have cheered for about 12years now, and I can honestly say I have missed 3 practices. 2 times because I was in the hospital... (but I still marked routines in my bed while they tried to cover my blood sugars ;p)
the other time when my mom was having heart surgery and no one could take me because my gym is almost 2 hours from my house. I have gone to practice/ competitions on funeral, being sick, everything. There is this girl at my gym that always calls in sick.. but really she's with her boyfriend. Not only is she late and not shows up for stupid reasons.. one day she left because her flyer kicked her in the jaw.. ya we were competing THAT weekend at Indy!!

At my school, you're not allowed to miss a practice or a game unless there was a death in the family, a medical emergency, or a serious illness/really contagious.

What I don't understand is why do you sign up for a sport if you're going to miss practice once a week to watch Dance Moms or miss Worlds to go to prom? You came in knowing what your schedule would be like. In other sports you can typically replace someone and everything will be cool, but in cheerleading you have to change everything. There are other girls that didn't make the team that would try so much harder, those are the girls I feel bad for.

a girl has missed the last two weeks of practice because the air conditioning is out at her house. oh ok...
Uhmm? What? That is possibly THE stupidest excuse I've read in this entire thread. If she's a flyer, she needs to be dropped a couple of times. ;) totally kidding......I think.
