I'm torn on how I feel about this. Something about these elite, invitation only events bother me. But if I recall correctly, the first couple of Worlds was like that too. But these events seem more about cheerlebrities than naming the best of the best.

I don't like the prom. Doesn't Cheer Extreme host a prom for their kids who missed prom due to Worlds or whatever? Finding a dress or tux and bringing it with me to a cheer comp, doesn't sound like my idea of a good time. But someone said something in this thread that made it seem like teams competing at the regular competition could attend? If so, good on them. My prom didn't have a red carpet walk like that, so perhaps that's why it seems so crazy. I know that lots of competitions have cheesy dance parties for the athletes, but those don't require a fancy dress or suit, nor are they broadcast to world. I'm sure the kids had fun, and I'm glad they did, I just think it's completely unnecessary at a cheerleading competition.

People can talk about cellphones not being allowed on a live movie set, but in a venue of this size, where cheer competitions don't have an expectation of silence (like tennis matches), this rule was clearly about keeping videos off the internet to get more butts in the theater.

As for the specialty awards, they too were stupid. But honestly, we have a 400 page thread about uniforms and threads about practice wear and we've been putting a lot of emphasis on the pageantry associated with cheer - big hair, lots of makeup, bejeweled uniforms, etc. So it's not surprising then that an EP would feed into that and offer it as an award.

I'm going to the movie on Thursday because of the novelty of it. I just bought my tickets. I'm sure I'll have more of an opinion then. But in general, I'm not a big fan of these events. I like that cheer is trying to grow it's fan base and appeal to fans that aren't just parents of the event - something that Worlds hasn't yet realized (we need a bigger venue!) but the invitation-only aspect and pageantry of all of it annoys me. I agree with whoever said earlier that it's just about celebrating the elite and pointing out how special they are.

ORRRRRR you could just ask them! Loving seeing the moms that dont even have kids cheering STILL loudly proclaiming their opinions on here. good for you.

Oh sorry. I didn't know this board was so exclusive! This post did wonders for helping dispel the image that this event wasn't about cheer as much as it was about excluding people who aren't special enough to be part of the chosen few.

You probably shouldn't offer a live feed for the general public to view it if it's only for special people. Why on earth do y'all put yourselves out there like this and then get mad when people comment? They made a MOVIE about it. If that doesn't say they want even non cheer people to see it, I don't know what does.

Sorry - the irish dance boards don't have any ridiculousness like this for me to comment on, so I come here to get my fill. Stop being ridiculous and I'll stop commenting.

@mstealtoyou can answer better how long CEA hosted it's own prom. I know they did one last year for Senior Elite and Coed Elite because kids on those teams were missing their own prom. Not sure if it goes back farther than that. But since SE and Coed both attended CL there isn't a CEA one on the schedule this year. Which makes sense to me.

Not hostile, just annoyed at the negativity that spews from certain posters constantly.

After reading the thread I agree with most of the points here but I really agree with the fact of how do you judge the competition when you were not there. How are you letting cheer twitters or a few fierce boarders who weren't there create this crazy unorganized idea in your head when the ones who were actually there are here to vouch that it was an awesome competition.

I do like the idea of the prom but I do think it would be better to call It an open ending ceremony or like how the majors calls is a gala. It was a good opportunity for EVERYONE on the team to feel special instead of just seeing the familiar faces from each team

Let's be real here this is not the first or last competition to have awards after midnight, we all get it that they were about an hour behind but have you ever tried to film/ direct a movie and only get one shot to do it? No, neither have I, but it does not seem like the easy task. You have one shot to film thousands of athletes, thousands of spectators and hundreds of coaches, so if you think of it from that angle the delays weren't too bad. I was at a very poorly run competition this weekend that put almost a half hour between some teams when there was no scheduled breaks so I can't say that CL is the first person to ever have delays.

The time between warm ups and competing was the only thing really that seemed really bad to me, there was risk of falls and injuries and all that but like so,some else said maybe that is why some teams didn't hit. I also am very curious as to how the on deck circle worked seemed like a cool idea. Even though I wasn't there the fact your seats were yours seemed so nice I'd love to see that at more of the big competitions.

Overall there was many innovative things at this comp and I'd love to see other EP's take notes, innovation (most of the times) attracts customers. In the future years I would love to see this movie in theaters for more than one day and advertised more, and I'd live to see more unknown teams attend the movie round (even if they are not in the movie) and I hope after the movie comes out we get a break down of some of the scores.
