Not sure if I am remembering correctly, but aren't you originally from upstate NY? That and any city that borders Canada are the only places in the US I've ever heard use "pop".I think I am the only person that does this... But I've always grown up calling fountain drinks "soda" and bottle drinks "pop" - because soda comes from a sods fountain and you pop the bottle open? Lol I don't actually even know why - I've just always said it that way.
