Looks like my open team is heading to Atlantic City this year, the competition is at Boardwalk Hall. I'm looking for hotel recommendations. I'm not really against staying outside of the city somewhere cheap, but we are an open team, so we'll probably be out Saturday night. And if I'm dragging my will-be-then-husband, he's going to want to be able to spend most of the day in the Casino and then pop over to watch me compete.

Suggestions?

We have also stayed at the Comfort inn on Blackhorse in W AC the last few competitions and will b this year also. Good breakfast, easy commute to convention center! Small rooms if u want to do a blow up only bring a single one!

I'd suggest looking into renting a beach house in margate/ventor/brigantine areas. ridiculously close. it'd be the off season and if you're splitting that between teams members and buying your own food for a kitchen you'd save a lot of $$.

the casinos are probably safest and with most of them filing bankruptcy, you can get incredibly good deals. the strip is safe for the most part, but the heart of the city is one of those places that they tell you to drive through red lights at night. last time i was there we stayed at the chelsea (there are two towers, one is beautiful and one looks like a set for a horror movie) for a bachelorette and split between us was crazy cheap. but right across the street is a motel filled with prostitutes. yes, i witnessed this first hand. you won't have small children with you though... so yeah. there are always cabs going that are pretty cheap so if you stay nearby you'd be fine if you were out drinking.

Since you're competing at Boardwalk Hall, I'd recommend trying to stay at one of the casinos. That way you just have to pay for parking once.

For the love of god & your safety, STAY IN A CASINO. You'll be happy you did. The Borgata & Harrahs are on the other side of town on the bay though, so neither of those.

@Ashley not about hotels but regarding hubby going to casinos and the competition... no matter where you stay, you can easily and safely get to a few casinos by walking straight down the boardwalk (Trump, Caesars, Bally's, Showboat) so parking/parking fees aren't an issue for him to jump back and forth

Be very careful about making any deposits however. If you make a deposit with a casino or hotel that goes bankrupt, you're likely to lose the deposit.

Hate to be a Debbie Downer here, but I wouldn't even put an Atlantic City competition on my calendar unless it was within driving distance.

And make sure to ensure a full refund from the EP if the event gets cancelled because it may happen if multiple casinos or hotels go bankrupt and gyms have to cancel.

I never book a hotel with a deposit. And I only book hotels with gratuitous cancelation policies - I want to be able to cancel up to the day before if I need to. But good point about the casinos going out of business. I have nothing to do with picking competitions, I just go where I'm told. There's multiple comps in AC though - multiple worlds bid comps even.

AC is within driving distance, sort of. I think it's about a 7 hr drive but it's the closest worlds bid comp outside of the two in New England. We used to have 3 and one of them moved to AC. And they offer paid bids to international teams. We're certainly not going there as a destination.

@njallday - thanks for the tip! My first year with this gym we had a comp at Mohegan Sun in CT and he was happy as a clam. I told him what time we competed and when he needed to leave the poker table :p

Trump is closing, don't book there ;) Bally's, Showboat, Trop...those would probably be my top choices due to proximity to Boardwalk Hall

I like the Taj, but it is about ten minutes up the Boardwalk from the Convention Center. Also, if Revel figures out its issues by then, it is a gorgeous hotel to stay in, but it is also at that end of the Boardwalk

You should be able to find good prices along the strip offseason-even though it is a holiday weekend. Keep an eye on Groupon and Travelzoo. I would definitely stay "onsite"...but if you want a 3 room suite that you can share , check out the Resort near Atlantic City NJ| Marriott’s Fairway Villas it is about 20 minutes away and nice (but secluded in the winter).

We went to the competition at boardwalk hall last year and stayed at ballys. It was within walking distance of the competition. It wasn't the nicest hotel but it wasn't too bad. I believe the trop is the closet to the actual hall so that would be an option too.

We stayed at Comfort Inn Suites last year and it was cheap (something like $120 for a double bed suite - could sleep 6 easy and 10 if you wanted to use air mattresses) and clean. Not fancy but had a beautiful bay view, a decent breakfast and the suite had 2 bathrooms, which was the best feature by far with 2 CPs getting ready at the same time!

The Casino hotels and the Sheraton are very expensive the weekend of Spirit Cheer, because there are several events happening that weekend and it is a holiday weekend. Not sure about the rates for the Epic Brands comp (which is the one I think you are attending?), but I have been to that competition in the past and loved it.

Yes, Battle at the Boardwalk in Early February. I think the Casino hotels are all really pricy that weekend too. Maybe I'll book at the Comfort Inn and keep an eye out for deals elsewhere. If my fiancé wasn't coming, I'd just pile in a room with teammates, but he hears Atlantic City and wants to tag along, ha!
