I'm pretty sure that as long as you are not using an upgrade (which you wouldn't be if you are just activating a replacement device) it does not alter your plan in any way. Call the online customer service; they will be able to give you a definitive answer and they can help you activate the new phone. They are much more knowledgeable than the sales people in the store and have the final word on your plan, services, etc. Be sure though to get the name of the person who you spoke to so that if there are any problems you can reference what they told you.I'm hoping maybe someone here knows if I can do this because most of my friends seem clueless:
I'm currently on an unlimited data plan with Verizon. I want to upgrade my phone because my current phone overheats, freezes up, and the keyboard rarely works. The problem is, if I upgrade through my discounted upgrade, I lose my unlimited data plan and am forced over to the share everything plan. I think I can buy a phone full price through Verizon to keep my unlimited data, but I was also wondering if I buy a phone through a 3rd party (friend, eBay, Amazon, etc.), would I be able to activate AND keep my plan the same as it is now? Of course, if I go to the Verizon store, they're not much help as they just want to basically make me change my plan instead of telling me if I can just buy a new phone myself from somewhere else.
