Yeah the only time I've needed a dr note was when she had shingles, so they needed her cleared to be around other kids again because it is so stupidly contagious and lasts so long. She missed over 2 weeks of school, so I had about 4 dr notes anyway.

Our district appears to have taken the opposite approach - they have such a problem with truancy that they have given up I think. They literally email you towards the end of the year and say, "Please write a note for the following unexcused dates. One note is fine, just list all the dates."

Um...OK. What if it's like 30 days? Yeah, that's fine. Just write us a note.

Yea I am expecting a letter any day now, although we moved closer to the gym this year and a new school district. The last 2 years we received letters about her absences. But she is in advance classes and carries an A average. Last year my CP missed 32 days, almost 12 for a concussion, another 10 or 12 days for competitions and Summit, and another 8 to 10 days for normal illnesses. Its not quite that bad this year but she will have missed 10 days alone for cheer, 4 for Summit alone.

That's crazy! So what's to stop the kids from skipping on the regular and just writing a note and faking a signature? Nothing? Maybe it was just my area but kids around here....well they lie. haha

I wish we had rules as lax as these. Especially for kids who always kept their grades up. But you can't pick and choose who it applies to, unfortunately. So everyone had to abide by the same regulations.

I guess they have bigger problems (gangs, violence, etc) so they figure truancy is the least of their worries. It's kind of a catch-22 because if they enforce it more, then the kids will just stop coming to school altogether. But if they don't enforce it... well, obviously that's not working.

Chicago has a serious lack of parenting problem. It's mind blowing.

Riiiight. I'm not bitter. ;)
We can fix this little problem. Forget your first place at NCA. Forget your first place at Champions League. Forget your high Raw Score. Let's just move East, they've got lots of bids for everyone I hear.. Remain Cali but shack up with oh, ummm, let's see....Top Gun. How would that work ?

I'm only kidding (before anyone gets upset). I'm really pleased for those teams that have received bids. And, I wish them a lot of success in their endevours to bring home the ring....honest.

Lol all this talk about missing school for Xyz reasons is making me think of Ferris Bueller's day off.

I worked in the attendance office my senior year in high school (first period) so I got all the late kids and absent kids coming in it get excuses. All they needed for an excuse was a parents note. Some parent called in too. Now I'm not sure the policy is the same or different. Also I got this weird message once that said my parents were going to pick me up after school so not to get on the bus. It was strange because my parents didn't say anything to me, so I called my mom she said she didn't make the call. Good thing I called because I would have missed the bus. Which would have sucked since I lived about 35 miles away. We never found out who made that call which is so creepy.

so just found out that cp's team got a bid........ now I'm trying to scramble to find flights
I'm so excited about this!!! I kept telling yall that yall would make it to the summit!! So perfect!! And we can hang out together for sure because we will be competing at the same times in the same location!! So no excuses!

Then again we competed the same time and location as @Cheermom1969 at nca and I spent both days trying to identify her kid and cheering for them but I never actually met her:/ lol I'm horrible

I'm so jealous!! Same gym but different team, so I don't get to make the trek to Florida.

It would be nice if there were more opportunities to get Summit bids out here in the West.

A mixed gym marriage. I like it!

We would have had to declare ourselves for a bid to even try to get one. We were dead in the water. Oh well.

But I am happy for the teams that are going and wish them a great time, a great routine, and great memories!

@Cheermom1969 and @klynn64 is it a decision made by the gym or a vote by parents at the beginning of the year if you all will go and on what type of bid? I know some Cali teams were taking At Large bids while others were not but, I wasn't really paying attention as to what gym they were from.
