I've been in tears in past day as I found out my daughter's "underboobs" were showing during her two routines on Saturday. Apparently the action shots available by the event was the first tip off and it spread around the gym, so a bunch of moms checked their photos and they all have shots. Athletes from our "rival" gym that were at the comp must have looked at her action shots and saw it. They shared the info with their friends and boyfriends. So she came home crying and I got several phone calls from concerned parents yesterday and screen shots sent to me. (No nipple but it's BAD. I'm just waiting for the action shots from Saturday to become the latest cheerleading mishap meme.) I'm relieved that she didn't know before the second routine or I don't know what we would have done.
My daughter is fifteen and 5'10". She is lean and fit. She is a full A cup. She was originally fitted with a medium half top over the summer and when it arrived, it was clearly too big all over. Plus, when she lifted her arms over her head, it slipped up over the bottom of her boobs. We were freaking out. We talked to the gym the next day and they said Varsity couldn't add length to the half top. We asked for it to be replaced with a small top, which she needed anyway. (She wore a small last year at the same gym, Varsity uniform, different design.) She bought the stick on stick on bra/boobs being told by teammates that it would help fill it out so it would ride up. Her 17 year old sister, who is 5'11" was having the same problem, so she got a pair too. The older sister doesn't tumble on her S2 team, so the pulling and stretching of the uniform isn't near what it is for her younger sister, who is on a S4 team.
We had our showcase about a month ago. My younger daughter felt like the stick on bra was going to fall out during warm ups of the S3 she was crossing to, so she pulled them out. We performed with the S3 and S4 and didn't think anything of it. (She did mention having to pull it down several times during the routine.) I just looked through those pictures. Lots of her boobs in the pictures. =(
We got her replacement uniform a day or so before our first comp. We thought we were set. She didn't need to pull it down during the routine since it was tighter.
Then the photos, comments and phone calls started. I looked as much as I could bear through my photos and her "underboobs" are showing in both the S2 she crossed to and her S4 routine. I can't look through them all. It's so upsetting.
I talked to the gym yesterday and was told the same information and then I told her how severe the problem was, how we tried different size uniforms, stick on bras, etc and kids are talking about it at school. She said she would get on it with the owner and the varsity rep and figure something out. Later that night a good friend text me and asked if I had talked to the gym. She and I had talked in the afternoon and she asked what the plan was. (She's the team mom.) The office lady asked why she wasn't wearing a bra and said we would have to alter it ourselves somehow and make it work. (The back is basically open and the only place for a strap across the back is very low and odd shaped.)
So, I tried to call Varsity to beg for help (without saying the gym). They are closed for the holiday.
I have looked up glue and tape but after looking at the pictures, the fabric is just too short for her long torso and it would pull up when she tumbles or have her arms up in a full extension.
I have been suggested a nude bodysuit (not an option in my opinion), taking the elastic in (which I am happy to have a real seamstress try but it would be to the point of being very uncomfortable and probably not stopping it from rising. (Tall girl problems, I know.)
It's been suggested we get material from Varsity, take off the bottom elastic, sew on another inch, and sew the elastic back on. (Seems like something the manufacturer should be doing, not me.)
I'm tracking down a bra she can try but it doesn't solve the problem. It will just have bra showing instead of her boobs. Great short term fix, as the next comp is a week from Saturday, but not a long term option.
I just don't know what to do. Has anybody been able to have an inch added to their half top by the manufacturer? My girls always had inches added to their skirts, full tops and sleeves. We didn't have any problems with last year's top. I'm just sick to my stomach about this and next Saturday will be here before I know it. (We are part of a big gym so it's a big Varsity account.)
