I did see Flip City's Sr 5 at The State competition and they were good! They beat Florida Top Dog. So yes they did have competition.
That's awesome. There are talented athletes on the team. It's a shame they couldn't compete at Matchplay. I would have liked to see them. I like seeing the compete on the level that are at. They need to focus on level 5. It is like any athlete. They get hurt from overuse of whatever body part. If I were the coach, I would be afraid of them getting hurt on Level 2 because Level 5 suffers. I would be more proud of a States Jacket from Level 5 then Level 2. Just my honest opinion. Hope they stay safe and enjoy Level 5! I never made it that far and probably never will. I don't have that drive at this point just want to have fun.

Why would you be more proud of a level 5 win than a level 2 win? That really doesn't sit well with me.

This is me assuming the jackets are the same for all levels so that would be irrelevant.

I think she means if you are a level 5 cheerleader competing on a level 5 and a level 2 teams. If they both won, she would feel more proud on the level 5 win than the level 2

Copied from an email just received from Varsity. Glad to see a formal set of steps is going to be implemented.

Coaches,

Due to a string of incidents at recent events across the country, Varsity All Star is implementing a formal policy to be adopted by all of our brands when dealing with age-eligibility violations. Any challenges (corroborated with evidence) submitted by another participating Gym Owner/Program within 48 hours of the event will be reviewed and considered.

In the instance that a team submits falsified rosters, inaccurate birthdates, or competes with athletes who are age ineligible, the following steps will be taken:

1. The team found in violation will be disqualified from the competition. They will be removed from our online Results page. All awards, trophies, banners associated with that team will be returned to the necessary Varsity office within 72 hours of disqualification.

2. Information regarding the responsible party's violation will be reported to the USASF. The USASF will issue the program a warning and will then then determine if further disciplinary action is necessary.

3. At all Varsity All Star events for the remainder of the season, every team from the program found in violation must provide government issued picture ID's (state ID card, passport, etc) for ALL athletes. These ID cards will be checked inside, or near, the warm up room by official personnel.

4. In the event that additional personnel is needed to handle the on-site ID check, the program in violation may be charged up to $500 at each Varsity All Star competition to cover the additional expense.

5. Varsity All Star reserves the right to take further action, including, but not limited to, revoking Varsity Family Plan/JAM Rewards membership status.
Varsity All Star takes the legitimacy and fairness of our sport very seriously. Be assured that we will be diligent in upholding the rules and unwavering in our response if USASF rosters are not submitted properly.

As Coaches, Parents, and Event Producers, we all have a responsibility to young people. Remember, we aren't just training cheerleaders and dancers to win titles. We are reinforcing core values that will shape and mold our next generation of leaders.

I am super impressed with this policy. Let's hope they follow through with it. I think that requiring that every athlete on every team within a program show a government issued ID if just one team in the program is caught with an ineligible athlete might receive some backlash. However, I think it will bring to light the dishonest practices of a program to parents and athletes who might not have otherwise heard about it. Parents with CP's on lower level teams may not hear about a disqualification of an upper level team from a competition that the lower level teams did not attend. I am guessing that most gyms that are caught cheating try their best to share that information with as little people as possible. But, hopefully, this policy will finally make the consequences of cheating outweigh the benefits.

1.) They recognize AND admit that there has been a problem with this. IMO this is a big deal because we rarely get admission like this. At least not publicly or on the record officially.

2.) The responsibility to report with proof is on a gym owner/coach and not a disgruntled parent. No proof, no violation.

3.) The gym if found in violation can potentially be charged for the extra personnel needed to check id's at future events. Instead of charging everyone else - which is again the right thing.

While follow thru on the behalf of all EP's is key, this a very good step. It doesn't save the "moment" at the competition, but it at least provides a recourse.

I wonder how many other teams (other than Flip city) are having to get government id's.
And at the comps, with the id's needing to be checked, everyone will know at some point that team cheated, unless checking id's is done where no one can see.
