All-Star Gabi's New Gym And Team Announcement 7/6/15

A really interesting overall theme she touched on (one that I hope a LOT of other 'cheerlebrities'/people in her age group in general pay attention to).

Life isn't always fun. Even something you love isn't always full of sunshine and roses.

I think so many appreciate the 'kid' side of cheerleading: being an athlete, coming to practice, etc. Even if they're a coach of a team, they don't always have to deal with the 'real' side of cheerleading: scheduling practices, locations, maintenance, social media, dealing with HUMANS who don't always act/speak/think the way you do or even the way you want them to. So they have this idea about what being a coach/gym owner is like, or whatever their '#jobgoalz/#lifegoalz' is like, but they have no sense of practical reality. They have this idealized version of how things work, so when it comes down to reality they get frustrated and confused. Any person who had actually aged out of HS and went out and got actual real-life experience (not ones cherry picked for you) could have told you this. But I suppose that's the point- we did. Doesn't matter, because I remember being that age and best of luck if you thought you could tell me anything lol.

I hope she realizes though: LIFE is like that. It's not just cheerleading- reaching for your dreams is important, but you really need to take the time to flesh out what each possible scenario is like and how you would handle it. I understand the "drama" frustration, and I think it's the mature decision to realize this is not something she can handle right now (if ever). I do hope she finds some success in whatever she's doing.

Yes.

So many folks fail to understand that an amazing cheerleader doesn't an amazing coach make.

Her little mini rant about parents also shows me that she has learned this very important lesson:

Suzy may be all like "omg wtf bbq that is THE Gabi Butler."

BUT

Suzy's Mom really doesn't care that you are Gabi Butler. She doesn't. She is not concerned with your titles and such (nor should she be.)

You could be Marta Karolyi and really all she wants to know is why Suzy didn't make J5.

Life lesson!

So she's in the Carolina's and posts it's "all about the LOVE" in capitals? Am I the only one thinking she'll magically appear at worlds with CEA? This could just be me hoping but I think it would be pretty awesome.

Aside from that I think she learned some very valuable things that all coaches and owners go through. She's learned it so young that it can only benefit whatever she decides to do in the future. She has some knowledge and experience in her that pretty much no one else her age does. I hate that she's lost out on her senior season though. It sounds like these were some hard learned lessons, and I'm sure it's a bittersweet relief to her to be moving on.

We are all guilty of having a dream of starting your own program, but what so many do not realize (as said before) This business is only about 40% of picking uniforms, gym colors, team names, and deciding on camps. 90% of this business is knowing who your lawyer is going to be, how will you pay for mishaps that happen at your gym, when you lease space depending on what's set up with your landlord you are responsible for everything. If your lights go out, you have to replace it, if your toilet messes up you have to pay the plumber. Not only that, you also to have make sure you're choosing SAFE and good quality competitions to go to each season. If parents do not like the competitions you attend and you don't make any means to change your selections, you'll loose parents. Young people also expect their clientele to pay their bills. This is what loans are for. You're not going to have every child pay their tuition on time. Sometimes not all and the parents might to try to pull a fast one on you and leave your program without paying. If you're depending on your students to pay your bills how will you handle a situation like that? Not every landlord is nice enough to let things slide. The list can go on forever. But this is just some of the key factors I believe many people my age forget about ( I am actually almost 22 so she's a few years younger than me) I just think that if more young people do what I do like actually get the experience in working for a program and get to know the in's and out's of a business they won't be that surprised about certain situations that can happen under their belt. Experience is the best form of learning!

She still has 1 more year of eligibility.

My bad, I thought this was her last season. Hopefully she'll have an enjoyable last season at whatever program she chooses to join. If she decides she still wants to cheer that is. This year could have burnt her out.

I'm wondering if she'll announce a new team before World's; is that even possible since technically she wouldn't have competed on the floor with any gym who currently has a bid? Clearly the waiver won't be an issue. Time shall tell I guess, but I definitely see her doing something next year to end her senior year.

I'm still guessing CEA. I never get on Twitter, but after reading the note I fell down a rabbit hole of Twitter accounts for people I've never heard of and stuff I really never cared to know in the first place. Really not proud of how I spent (wasted?) the last hour of my life. Her boyfriend tweeted "we moved to Raleigh for a team." I'm just assuming we is he and Gabi but I could be wrong. The love comment is very much a CEA thing. Now all we need is a JTV video of her appearing under the worlds banners a la Jenee.

Are there any other Raleigh gyms that have a World's team?

ETA: Powerhouse is also in Raleigh and they had another World's teams. Does that team have a bid?

Each team is allowed up to 3 "wildcard alternates" that didn't compete with the gym at the comp the bid was earned at.

She could compete at Worlds with another team if they would have her:

ELIGIBLE ATHLETES, SUBSTITUTIONS & ALTERNATES

  • A Maximum of 10 substitutions will be allowed per team for Large Division Teams
  • A Maximum of 8 substitutions will be allowed per team for Medium & International Open Division Teams
  • A Maximum of 6 substitutions will be allowed per team for Small Division Teams
  • Note: Each of these numbers do include the 3 "wild card" alternates that may be substituted. (described below)
A substitute must be a regular paid participant from another team at the same gym and must have competed "on the floor" with that team from that gym at the same event where the bid was awarded. All substitutes must meet the same eligibility requirements as the original team that was awarded a bid (i.e. age, etc).

Of the 6, 8 or 10 possible substitutes, one to three of those may be "Wild Card" alternates. "Wild Card" alternates are registered members of the same team's gym where the bid was received. Alternates do not have to be rostered or in attendance at the Worlds bid qualifying event where the bid was received.

I just want to say that I'm extremely happy with how she handled this. It takes a mature person to own up to things like she did, and it really shows her growth as a person and as someone so prominent in the cheer community to admit that things didn't go her way. I hope she continues with cheer for her last season because I really want to see what she can accomplish.
