I know our local competitions are not following the guidelines/rules this year, unless you're a Worlds team, of course. We're also in Canada and never televised, so I think they're not as concerned about the issue yet. I think the plan is to bring it in next season.

On a different note, our school music has regular songs in it, and there was an option during payment to pay extra and get a certificate for the copyright license to the music. I'm assuming they have bought the rights to certain songs that they can now include? Not sure, since I didn't look into it as we didn't need it.

In Québec you dont have to follow the rule unless you are competing in the US or if the competition is filmed. At least, this is pretty much the rule for this year.

I would die of happiness if F5 brought back
1) Miss Honey
2) Fierce. Intense. Vicious. Every time.
3) a 2012type mix.
4) the ZEBRA PRINT UNIS!!

Also if the mix could be released soon so we could all have it as a holiday present that would be great too. Haha

Side note: GREAT JOB music producers!!! I was worried that the new rules would kill the mixes, but so far the mixes have been great and keep getting better! Keep it up!!

well you at least got your second wish!

We finally had our first competition this weekend. I was surprised at the number of covers I heard. I would say about 1 in 3 teams had covers in their mixes.I had thought that covers wouldn't be allowed, but I must have misunderstood the rules. These were sped up, with added sound effects, etc. So I am guessing the music producer licenses those songs? I'm sort of curious what those parents pay for music. I thought it was really expensive to license it? We paid $100 each for a 13 person team for a semi-custom mix, which seemed like a lot already!

yeah, was in Louisville this weekend and I heard a lot of music from well known artists. I somehow really question of some of them granted permission to be used. i.e. Celine Dion. really?
Makes me think this was more of a money grab from Varsity.

I was going under the impression that the songs I heard were really good covers but some of them had me shaking my head. One mix included Lady Gaga's "Million Reasons", which was released 34 days ago. In that time someone had the chance to do a perfect cover for a cheer mix and get the appropriate licensing? I'm just confused. I swear, as the years go by I see more and more that makes me ask questions :(
