But you were able to be given it. We beat the other paid teams but due to declarations we can't get those bids!
We beat other teams also, hit zero both days and won jackets and scored our highest score this season but as per the declaration it was a no go. A junior team in another division, same level scored .07 ahead of us so our senior team was out. One of the teams that we beat twice already has a wild card bid from a comp we didn't attend. They are going to summit even tho we have beat them by a full 3 points. That is a hard pill to swallow for our kids.....

Summit bid declarations can absolutely knock people out of the running for a bid that beat out other teams. You can have the 2nd highest score of the entire comp, but if the team ahead of you is either in your level (2 day events) or age (1 day events, eta: and events with paid bids), you won't get a bid. It sucks, but it's part of the sport, and I wouldn't necessarily call it unfair.

What's sad is that last year this same comp had paid bids and at large bids. This year they only had at large. I guess their numbers weren't high enough to keep those paid bids. We definitely would have had an at large if the comp had kept last year's bids. But its a system and you have to know how to game the system. We didn't attend the right comps lolol

I should of specified in my post it was about Worlds declaration that says I5 teams can only get 1 of 3 bids......
There's a team from NC that's an open team and they did exceptionally well at a big comp but they were passed over for a paid bid based on declarations. It doesn't seem fair. They want kids to stay in the sport and keep making money off of them but when the kids stay and end up on open teams, they can't get bids or can't get a much deserved paid bid. I definitely agree with you. I did hear they are re visiting bids for open teams next season???

Originally I thought the universal summit bid declaration was a good thing, it made it easy to figure out who was getting what bids. BUT, I have definitely seen some issues with it this year. We did a 2 day comp where only 1 D1 gym attended, so they took all the D1 bids. Being a level 4, 4.2, or 5/5R team makes is pretty darn easy to receive a Summit bid. We got ours at our first comp, but could have picked one up at pretty much any comp all season long. There just aren't many teams at that level around here, especially D2. 4.2 teams are picking up a bunch of bids because there are no level 5s. I don't know of a single 4.2 around here that doesn't have a bid.

Will this be fixed next season? I don't know what the answer is. Not sure if this is a regional issue or if everyone is seeing it.

We are in the opposite boat. Lots of 5r teams here and not a lot of bids. If you look at Sr 5r medium and large...there are only one per division with a bid, it is totally nuts.

It Is hard gto be in a sport that I feel is not fair! Same comp this year and last we were 2nd and 3rd place in bid order but didn't get a bid.....last year a 10th/11th place AG got it because of declaration. I do hope it is looked at, discussed and changed.

I’m wondering if they should do away with summit bids and make it a more like a qualifying event than a bid event. Like you have to competed at x number of varsity events during season and scored at least y in z of them.
Something like you have to compete in 5 varsity events during the season and scored at least a 92 at 3 of them? Just throwing our numbers as an idea for what I mean.

People want to go because it is limited and hard to get a bid too.
The issue is there isn’t a really equitable way to distribute them. I mean if the judging panel isn’t even going to be the same for those levels competing against each other for a bid—how can you ensure the “best” team got the bid? As indicated in the NCA thread, arena A was scored much lower arena B. How can you determine the winner of a paid bid between arenas if the scoring isn’t consistent?

I like this, was thinking something similar. Maybe different criteria like either you have to win in a division with at least 3 teams or score in the top 3 in your level or age.

I agree with you, but the reason most go crazy wanting a bid is because they are hard to get. If they weren't the competition would lose it's appeal.

If a person wants a Varsity competition at Disney they can go to UCA. They want Summit because it is exclusive.

I really don't think it would and I think Worlds is a good example of that. It's gotten easier and easier to get a bid over the years and yet it still holds a large appeal. As more and more Summit bids continue to be offered each year (which is inevitable), the odds of getting a bid will go up. Now, it probably won't get to the point of Worlds, but I think the percentage of teams that get bids will continue to rise. And I don't think the appeal of going to Summit will decline with that.

Just my opinion and I could be wrong, if you only needed a 92 to go it would lose it's appeal. Worlds has appeal because you must be a level 5 Worlds team to go. That in itself is exclusive. Many athletes never make it to a level 5 Worlds team.
