Based on what I have seen in the comments, my thoughts below:

"Harder to Coed stunt in a full top"
Team Canada, USA, and many other AMAZING ICU teams have no problem stunting with full tops.
"It's too Hot"
Don't wear your uniform top in the Florida sun. Change into a t-shirt before/after competing. Most (All) venues are AC - I don't think it would really kill anyone to warmup/compete in a full top, and then change into a tshirt to cool off.
"They're teenagers, they should be allowed to show their midriffs. Woman shouldn't confine to a dress code and they should dress how they want without it being sexualized"
I am torn on this. Because I do agree that we have the right to dress in what makes us comfortable. However I do think that the full tops overall present the sport in a more respectable light. I like the ICU 'look' and think it is highly professional, competitive, but still "Cheerleader-y".

All and all, although I like crop tops. I think I like the ICU "look" better. So I am for the change.

That's just me though.

Uniforms are generally a MESS. People do insane things and I think on an international scale, people don't get it or don't like it, some countries have specific uniform rules already

I think as the international aspect of the sport grows, you'll see a tightening of the uniform rules, and people will be ticked. But it's completely necessary. If you look at the uniform thread, you'll see exactly why these rules are needed.

I'm indifferent to it. I've seen a ton of non-mesh tummy, cute as heck full tops. ICU shows that it's possible. High schools show that it's possible!

I’m in favor of it. I like the high school and ICU uniforms on teen girls much better than many of the USASF ones.

Would people’s opinions really be changed that much just because the teams have covered stomachs? I mean if people really can’t get past an open stomach to see what the sport truly is I have doubts that adding three more inches of fabric will suddenly open their eyes. I agree that some uniforms are absolutely not sensible and don’t belong on the floor but on the other hand I’ve seen so many beautiful sensible half tops (Star athletics, Stingrays,CJA, Cheer athletics, World Cup) and I would hate to see uniforms like those be “outlawed” in the open division. This sport isn’t for everyone and that’s okay. Not everyone will be able to see the beauty and athleticism whether that’s due to uniforms or something else and that’s okay. Not everyone will understand the sport and that’s okay. I think instead of trying to make more people accept our sport we need to continue working on how to keep those who are already involved and in love with the sport in it.

I will say this until the day I die, uniforms as they exist are part of what makes it difficult to convince people to take cheer seriously. I’m all for this change.

I still say USASF/IASF should come out with a few bra designs, like a regular one, racer back, etc. They should then say every uniform either needs to cover these bra shapes or incorporate them into the design of the uniform.
Boom, no more bra brigade needed, varsity has another thing to sell and is happy, and those team practice wear bras are finally a justifiable expense.

There is no reason that minors should EVER be afraid of a wardrobe malfunction while competing. It’s ridiculous.

To me it's not about accepting the sport, as much as growing the sport. A lot of families considering joining are put off by the uniforms (and makeup.) Some suck it up and others encourage their kid to find a different hobby.

I grew up in the sport; my sister, cousins, mom, aunts, etc all were cheerleaders and I can tell you right now if I have a child, specifically a daughter, who wants to cheer I would seriously question it and probably steer her in a different direction. There's a few reasons for that, but the uniforms are one. I am very pro-female rights and empowerment. I'd like to empower any future daughters to be strong, fierce competitors if they choose to participate in athletics. By being an athlete, they should be totally and completely focused on their sport - NOT worrying about a nip slip or a wedgie with a butt cheek hanging out of their skirt or their top falling off. If they are going to be an athlete they should be treated like athletes and allowed to wear a freaking adequate, supportive sports bra so they can focus on what's important. No child of mine will be wrapped in duct tape for a 2 minute and 3o second routine for the sake of "looking pretty."

I am pro body-positivity and I think majority of school dress codes are absurd because they only focus on shaming the female body - however, there is absolutely no need to dress a child in something that looks like it came from a lingerie catalog. Let them be children. If she wants to wear sparkly, strappy, backless crop tops, cool, but it shouldn't be forced upon them by their "sport." Athletics, specifically female athletics, should be as inclusive as possible.

Statistically HALF of girls quit sports by the time they hit puberty because of self-consciousness. We should be building girls up and if adding an extra 8 inches of fabric encourages more girls to feel comfortable, why is that the end of the world? You can still keep sparkles and bows and the more fun aspects of cheer. They may stomp their feet, but no one is going to quit because they can't show off their belly button. You'll all survive. It will be okay.

If we can’t design a uniform that’s aesthetically pleasing and also athletically functional, can we really call ourselves a sport steeped in creativity and originality?
Modesty is not a dirty word.

Don’t some college cheer teams wear crop tops? I feel like I have seen that, and I think they were still athletic looking. My Cp is actually very much looking forward to being on a senior team to get the opportunity to wear a crop. I think, especially for non-Worlds senior divisions, it gives the kids a bit of excitement to “graduate” to the senior level and get that uni. I honestly don’t think the athletes look at the crops as being “inappropriate.” Personally, as a parent, I think full tops are more uniform looking, but I totally get the kids wanting them.

@njallday and @cupieqt Yes! As parents, we have the ability to allow and purchase whatever clothing and make up we feel is appropriate for our children to wear on most given days. When it comes to sports, however, I agree uniforms need to be functional and modest. I have never been opposed to my kid's midriff showing 3-4" with a reasonable amount of stage make up, but my opinion doesn't matter. There's a rather large population that refuses to allow their girls to participate in cheer and dance because they feel many adults choose to exploit and degrade young girls in their choice of uniforms, costumes, make up, and moves.

My college has cropped uniforms (as seen in my profile picture). Three of our six unis are cropped and I prefer them to our full top uniforms. It is possible to have athletic and well designed uniforms that have a crop. Most of our crops are designed so that the skirt is worn over our belly buttons and cover more skin than the all-star uniforms do with the lower rise skirts and shorts. I honestly don't see the real issue with crops when there are so many other issues that need to be tackled in the cheer world...

I’ve got no problem with crop tops. My issue is with low cut, off the shoulder, micro crops with skirts and Booty shorts that ride up just from walking around.

Combine all that with sexy/flirty motions, suggestive voice overs and team names that you can find in erotic literature and we have a perfect recipe for “HELL NO”.
