Personally, I do feel there are a lot of teams that are SO5 and should probably be S5. I thought SO5 was primarily for smaller-ish gyms to compete at level 5 and eventually build a nice S5 team. And seeing super-gyms compete in SO5 with complete perfection and with kids you know have doubles(cough) and have competed level 5 for years(cough) can probably be frustrating for a true SO5 team with few level 5 cheerleaders to select from. But, it is what it is, and to compete in 'any' level 5 you are just going to be up against amazing teams, whether anyone thinks they belong in another division or not. I think it is a fun division to watch!

This is my point exactly with the USASF divisions. Every time we come up with a division for smaller gyms to be competitive, larger gyms always fill a team with it. Same happened with 4.2, senior open 5, and the old Senior Open divisions with 18 and younger. The spirit of these divisions come from smaller gyms trying to be competitive but they get filled with larger gyms who pull in tons of cross competitors and it ends up being some power house division. Until the USASF realizes that small gym divisions are needed, then we will always have divisions that are impacted with these powerhouse teams.

They have small gym divisions - everything else is fair game!!!!! On a side note - our senior open 5 won grand champs of the entire competition of a NCA regional - but did not get a full paid bid to all levels. So, not only are SO5's not worlds eligable - but they were not eligable for a full paid to all levels - BECAUSE = they are level 5.

Almost sounds like the problem with IOC5 teams outscoring all the senior teams and still not getting a paid bid because they are not a senior team.

I absolutely love watching a majority of the SO5 teams. I actually think that if all the athletes are age eligible and can hang with the other teams then they should try going for a bid at a competition or two. Kind of like what Rubies did last year. They took those athletes that were seniors and would never have gotten to go to worlds and made a team for them to compete.

I wasnt trying to be rude.
Heres my response reworded.

Open 5 is supposed to be a stepping stone to level 5. I interpret the level as kind of 4 1/2. Like you're better than level 4, but not quite to level 5, and Worlds is supposed to be the best of the best.

Well if Worlds is sposed to be the best of the best then why cant WC Stalites go... lame

Unfortunatly - our gym will not even consider a worlds team unless they have a legitimate chance at winning worlds. We will not have "just go for the experience" teams.

From what I understand, that's a reason why our program doesn't fields a Worlds team either. The senior open 5 team lets them put their top-level athletes, regardless of age, on a team where they can perform their skills.

Because Juniors don't belong at worlds. I am extremely thankful they got rid of them at worlds. It should only be for senior teams.
As far as everyone else complaining about SO5...it's time to build a bridge and get over it. No one is ever happy. SO5 didn't exist, and people weren't happy cause they couldn't compete with the big dogs. SO5 is created, and people aren't happy because the big dogs have the same problem they do with in between kids. This is not, nor was it ever intended to be a small gym division. Same as 4.2. Do you honestly think that because a gym is big they don't have the same issues placing kids that small gyms do? Seriously.

I think small gyms and large gyms have an entirely different set of problems. Small gyms worry about getting enough fulls to get enough points to be competitive. Large gyms have *so* many doubles, that people with fulls don't get put on level 5 because it's not a double.
IMO, small gyms have the shorter end of the stick. And a legitimate complaint. Seriously.

Big gyms have those kids that are beyond level 4 but not quite up to level 5, just the same as small gyms. Yes, their talent pool is deeper, and maybe some of their kids are more towards the level 5 end of the scale, but it's the same issue. I've seen big gyms SO5 throw layouts, just like I've seen the small gyms do it. I've also seen the big gyms lose to those small gyms. There are some bad @ss small gyms out there. Personally though, I'm tired of the "woe is me, we can't be competitive cause you're bigger than us". There are plenty of small gyms that are just down right scary good. It's all about placing teams appropriately and using your strengths to your advantage. For the record, I've always been a part of small gyms, right in the backyard of one of the biggest names out there. You do what you can with what you have.

Yay!!! So glad that juniors at Worlds was also brought up in this thread. @kingston you now HAVE to pin it and make it required reading. Make it so that people have to actually check a box acknowledging that they have read and understood the thread and are no longer allowed to comment.

I wish I could shimmy this multiple times

I think the issue is every gym wants a level 5 Worlds team.. BUT they also want to be extremely competitive and win. And if there isnt some way to make that happen, life isnt fair.
