my sisters team has received a full paid bid earlier this season and ever since then they have gotten called bad names, been told that they suck and that they dont deserve it and many other harsh comments. but not only have i seen bad sportsmanship towards them but i have seen bad sportsman ship between other teams too! idk i just was wondering if anyone else has seen this??

It scares me how vicious mini's can be. I've seen them act worse at competitions then some senior teams. I think that we need to imbed the idea of good sportsmanship into their minds now so down the road in 10 years we dont have problems. Cheerleading should simply be the best team winning.... buts thats never enough lol

What I like to stress to my cheerleaders, especially the younger ones, is that the team that wins a particular competition is the best team....THAT DAY. So you could be in either the winning or losing position at any given competition, and in both those situations, you need to act the way YOU would want to be treated if the scores came out differently.

I think that it goes for all levels just level 5 is a very competitive level to compete in anyway. I think that the coaches dictate how the teams act most of the time because they don't say anything to stop it. We were always taught to have good sportsmanship, but still be able to be disappointed and competitive at the same time

Bad Sportsmanship should be dealt with by coaches and gym owners. You can't tell me they don't know what their kids are doing and saying. It's not funny, it's not cute, and if it starts young, you can believe they're gonna keep doing it when they get older. It's a shame....

i agree with you. the coaches have to know....

yes exactly...everyone who loses is upset and the first instinct is to say "oh they didnt deserve it, we were better" treat others like you want to be treated if you won!! as for the prioe minis posts on here...its scary. people just need to learn to accept defeat

i would also like to point out that fans can create bad sportsmanship too. i personally don't like world cup. i'm not saying that they aren't good, because they are. I've always been a cheer extreme fan even as a little girl competing against maddie gardner so i naturally pull for them, but i open my mouth and say it and i get attacked. the little sayings against each other can carry over. my friend is on a local team and a fan from another was making comments to their face saying "they suck" and "can't tumble to save their lives". A fan! she didn't even cheer for the opposing team! people just need to learn respect.

I don't know about level 5, but I have seen some bad sportsmanship down at the mini 1 level!! That scares me more than anything!!

I have been told our minis experienced some horrid conduct from one of the other teams this weekend at UCA. I guess I try to tell myself "they're little, they haven't learned what constitutes appropriate behavior yet", but at the same time were they raised in a barn?

No, you are absolutely not the only one who has noticed the atrocious level of sportsmanship and civility between level 5 cheerleaders. I mean, hate channels on Youtube. Really?!? What are you like 7 years old. Having an opinion is fine and so is expressing it, but there's not need to be bratty, snippy, or just flat out rude and obnoxious. It not only makes your program look bad (not to mention, it doesn't gain you anything) but it makes cheerleaders look really bad overall. If you want the stereotypes gone, you have to practice what you preach. You say cheerleaders aren't caddy and rude? Well then you better fix your attitude. Act your age, not your shoe size.
