Well dad, there are agendas and politics galore, but remember, the promotors want more competition fees, entry fees and food and merchandise sales, so whatever brings in more kids and puts more rumps in the seats is A OK.

Oh, I get the economics of it. But to someone who doesn't understand the intricacies of these division, it's confusing as heck. I can't imagine what it looks like to someone from the outside.

I guess it has evolved a bit schizophrenically (I do not minimize the effect Mr. Brubaker had on cheer with his multiple divisions, sizes and levels which was genius) but how they decide the numbers, mix is more like vodoo economics to me, so I always tend to go with keep it the way it is unless you are pretty certain you are making an improvement. I think these rules will help big gyms a lot, and increase the tendancy for level 5 athletes to go from smaller gyms to larger ones. More slots in the gyms, better team skills. If you look at the environment I think it is pretty clear that promotors and large gyms are calling the shots.

Hello Medium! Goodbye Large!!! Well, except for maybe 3 teams.... :) Thus the evolution of "medium is the new large" like Semi/Unlimited has been this year. :) Great news!!!
no, they should wait to do this for 2013 if things were still lopsided. with the elimination of other divisions like large limited, like i wanted, it would spread more people out, so large could survive, such as T&S and other large limited teams could add girls and be large all girl. now i feel like this medium division is taking away from something good that they have done to make this even. everyones gunna jump on this division like semi limited so they can be the new Orange/Senior Elite/SOT/ga of the cheer world, you just killed the best division in allstar cheer. i almost would of rather seen them just get rid of large so i dont have to watch large next year end in misery...or so i could see cea/f5/wc/tsunami dominate medium so everyone can go back to small again.

I would have to disagree. 30 was spurred on the by the large vote. The committee, of which is large gyms and EP's, were the ones who fought very hard to keep 36. Not sure who planned this or how but now people can speak with their teams on who to compete with in what divisions. I can think of a few times the past few seasons Large Senior teams were the only one at an event (and a large one at that) and had to compete against the small division... otherwise they would have competed against no one. So, you ask yourself, why are so many people hesitant to move into large senior? It must be because they are scared! And the sky is falling! Funny thing is just entering large senior at worlds my team, Spice (who is a Senior Open 5 team, couple level 5 junior kids thrown in for a why not just try it) will finish higher than around 60 small senior teams even before they take the mat. I get to claim top 20 without trying! Hrmmm... I can't think it is because they are scared then. It must be something else.

What could it be about finding 20 kids that is so hard, but then entering a division with a limit of 36 that is making people decide it be smarter to shave off those few kids and stay small? 60 more times than large?

I will definitely agree with you on one point: It will be sad to see large go out with a whimper... instead of a bang. Aka unlimited this year.

Now I said nothing about anyone being scared, but I will admit I think your team should have been in Large Senior all along. You are a big gym with more than enough talent. But I never saw anyone trying to force you one way or the other. That said, last I looked, there is still a 36 division and 3 of the very top teams in the World inhabiting that division If they stay, the division will last a bit longer than your "400 days". I think your status says alot about your true intent. Now, why is it really you do not like teams moving into small?

I am super glad they have created the medium division. It gives all those small gyms who have more than 20 athletes that are level 5 but not enough for the 36 a chance at winning.

im led to believe stingray spice is a scam to promote the new medium.
(sarcasm smiley with a slight belief that it may be true)

I agree because they did not close a 36 member Large team while doing just that. As said, I think that is due to the intervention of the very large teams that have vested interest in keeping a large division. It may die. The rather euphoric assumptions put forth at the first of this thread is that it is a "done deal". I'm not so certain. The very gyms that field large teams will benefit greatly from having multiple options for teams and slots for Worlds athletes. Like it or not, winning Worlds is the big enchilada for Senior Aged Level 5 athletes. The original proposals were to only allow Senior Large to have 30 or 32 athletes, and there was even discussion of one division in the mid 20s. That did not happen. But there is more to this than just increased competition. However, to that point, one has to understand that the SS, F5, SE and others of the world are so very popular because they go at it, head to head, in the practice gym, on the mat and in the hearts and minds of cheer fans everywhere. Never shy away from competition, embrace it, and if the end result is that all 3 catergories of Senior 5 thrive, then it was all done for the right reason. But that has not been the history of the agendas to this point, until someone at the top decided that 3 divisions were a good thing. Hopefully, all is well that ends well.
