All-Star Rumor Control-senior Age Change

by the time you turn 17 you probs want to be at your cheer gym everyday....like if you start on a team at 17?

I've thought about it. And I think YOU should re-read it. I never said there shouldn't be small gyms - we started at one and probably would have never gotten involved in cheer without it. What I said was that small gyms don't HAVE TO have a worlds team to survive. Every debate I've seen on here (yes I was here for the rules one as well as many others) that involves small gyms someone has said that. And I don't think its true. I could name at least 10 gyms on here that have no worlds team, no level 5 team, started as tiny programs and are absolutely flourishing right now. So my argument was that changing the age for worlds shouldn't mean a hill of beans to a small program. If you can't field a worlds team you should still be able to run a gym.

And I'm sorry if you Didn't like my word "cry". I guess I could have just said "say" but I just am tired of it. Every time we talk about not letting younger kids on worlds teams someone from a small gym DOES come on here and say "you're trying to kill the small gym!!!" and it does come off as crying sometimes. No one...I repeat NO ONE...is trying to "kill" small gyms. We're trying to make a sport that is safe and fun for everyone. Like I've said at least a dozen times...if that means small gyms don't have a worlds team its not the end of the world. Small gyms can survive - and thrive even - without going to worlds.

For the record the wording of your post was highly offensive.

WELL, GOOD GRIEF! Sorry I messed up the reply to Just-a-Mom! Meant to just reply to your thread and got carried away and hit send...
ANYWAY, my cp is at a small gym. The competitng gym down the road in our town is not "technically" small gym because they have two locations. However, neither of our gyms have ever competed at Worlds. Would we LIKE to?? Maybe. But realistically, unless the gyms were combined (which will NEVER happen) neither of these programs will ever compete at Worlds. We simply do not have enough level 5 tumblers and stunters to field a complete team. So, I AGREE with Just-a-Mom when she says that for a lot of small gyms, who don't compete at Worlds, the change will not matter.
The only rule that I would ask for (and they do have) is that I like to compete against other small gyms. That gives our girls the change to compete Level 5, even though we don't have a team full of true Level 5 girls. Our gym takes the girls we get and makes the most of it.
And not offended by Just-a-Mom. I get the point. I don't want any special rules, just like to be able to compete against same type gyms.

Again, 12 year olds belong on a senior team. If you don't want your 12 year old on a senior team, then don't. Seems easy enough to me. Seems like the whining is from 14 and ups getting beat out by younguns. Sorry, I don't really care, I'll fight for 12 year olds, SOME parents might not like it but oh well.

Haha I got that part. But for some reason I don't think they were too concerned with what academic grade said 12-year-olds are in- this is a cheerleading board

It's relevant though detatched. Something (page 1-2ish?) had been said about 12th graders lifting 60 lb 6th graders (I.e. 12-year-olds.)

I've read some of the other post and another thought came to me. Instead of just having a bottom and top age on senior, why not them on all divisions?
This is what I personally feel like the division should start & stop..
Tiny:3-5
Mini:5-9
Youth:9-12
Junior:10-14
Senior:14-18
I don't know if it will work, but it seems reasonable to me...but i'm just a mom in the cheer world...:)
