my mom would have a cow. we sure as heck wouldnt be driving to dallas twice a week for practice..

I live in salisbury md. (eastern shore) drive 3 hours twice a week to va beach(fame gym) and coach and drive 1 1/2 to dover de 3 times a week lol local comps to fame is richmond(which is a 5 hour drive for me) not to mention the toll to go to va beach is 12$ each way(granted i have ezpass) that gas bills gets quite hefty. lol

Funny, here in germany the gallon cost 4,2 Dollar and i know people who drives 1 hour to go to practise 3 times a week, but the good thing is, we have many bus and trainstation, where you can drive anywhere. I think the cracks would save money in other things instead of cheerleading.

At present, transportation to cheer is already costing more than cheer for us. We are going to get a smaller, more economical car eventually, but the current vehicle is paid for so can't beat that. Price per gallon jumped .30 since I last drove to practice.:( Going to stick my head in sand and not think about $5/gallon gasoline. Yes, that works for me. Honestly, if you had told me what I would be paying for cheer when we started years ago...ay caramba! But right now it is our life. But we only have a few more years. I could definitely see people starting out now not sticking with it or making different choices. I can certainly see the cost of fuel changing things more rapidly than anything else.

I drove over 45 minutes to get to the gym where I coached except for the first 2 years the gym I was at was 2 minutes from my house then they closed down. I dont even take into consideration the gas prices to be honest I just fill up and Im on my way. Since I have moved to Northeast, PA my drive to my new gym is about 30 minutes, and Its great! If you love where you are then the gas doesnt matter, unless your a parent I guess!

I drive 1.5 - 2 hours to get to practice, then maybe an hour and 15 back to get home. I pay for it myself my parents don't, and I say that it is worth every penny. I'd rather be there than at a gym that makes me unhappy.

That trip would cost me $20. Dang gas has gone up (I drive a gas efficient car for the moment).

yikes, $5??? it was rough when it was reaching upper 3/4s for me... when you live in the middle of nowhere, you do alot of driving.... 45 minutes to school, and an hour and 20 minutes to practice. could we have changed that? yes. did we? no. i just made other sacrfrices instead. me, not my family. i was not going to make my family make changes so i could cheer at the gym i wanted to, or go to school where i wanted to. i've been working a real job since i was 14, working 20+ hours during the school week on top of practice, and 40-50 hours a week on breaks and in the summer. why? because i'm not going to make my mom pay for my decision to cheer with the best option i have. therefore, i raised the money i needed myself. i worked my butt off for scholarships and any fundraiser that came my way too. i gave up alot, but in the long run i'll say it was worth it.

..One of my favorite things about NYC. Yeah, subway prices are getting ridiculous, but at least they use renewable energy..(when they brake).

This is old news in Cali (gas prices), and we have one of the worst pulic transit systems. I don't know anyone who uses it.....but even at our gas prices being even more out of control, and after everyone has had tryouts it doesn't seem to have been a factor in choosing gyms, just more carpooling.
