What does everyone think about a lawyer doing anything with this now that its taken down??? Ive been working with someone over PM who had someone wanting to work on this, but whats everyones thoughts?

You should keep with it. Just because they took it down doesnt mean it will change. There could be a chance that they print out a new set of rules and hide that in there. Or they change the other rules for tumbling and hope that no one pay this one any attention. I would advice you to keep with it until the open admit they were in the wrong and change it publicly. Just because they put it in the closet doesn't mean its not there.

I have never, I repeat NEVER watched a routine and ever thought, "geeee ..... I wish those guys would be less "theatrical or flamboyant!" Just the opposite ..... I LOVE IT!!! It is always entertaining and fun. It's why I, as a mother and spectator, fell in love with this sport. I wish they would do it more! When standing in a crowd, watching routines, you always hear people say "God ... I love watching that boy!" Never, "ewww ... I wish they would tone it down." Who's the "phobic" that came up with that rule! It's just sad!

Maybe they're afraid other young boys will see it and turn gay, it happens all the time LOL

On my daughter's team 2 years ago there was only one boy and he was smaller for his age so he did fly 2 stunts and comments from the judges said that he should not shimmy....now if he was a girl I'm sure they wouldn't have said anything! Your eye is just drawn to him because he was the only boy in a stunt and that's not fair.

Would this be considered to theatrical because as far as I can see, this guy loves what he is doing and has more passion and heart than the majority of the girls in all star cheer today. and who is to say that he needs to tone it down a bit. because that is wrong!

Love all of you boys and girls out there - love your personalities shining as yourselves. I love that this sport allows all of you to shine with confidence and grace. Do not let anyone take that from you.

I shake my head because every time I think the world has come a long way, we see discrimination rear its ugly head again - wherever it can.

Outside of the obvious, the biggest issue with this is the pure subjectivity of the requirement. We can't get judges to agree on...basically anything...related to a scoresheet..so how can we possibly expect consistently in enforcing what a "theatrical" movement would be? How do I tell my son you can do A but don't do B (for the record my son is always buried in the back for dance, he's a little rhythmically challenged so this would not be a rule he'd really have to worry about) but I think it opens the door for ridiculous subjectivity that can only be discriminatory at best and outright homophobic at worst.

I appreciate the fact my kids have never in their life "seen" color. Through our years with cheer, they don't see "orientation" either. I find it unfortunate that our sports governing body DOES see orientation, they could learn from my middle schoolers.

Is my son bullied at school for being a cheerleader....yes....every single day. Is he gay? No. Is that the number one thing he's called? Yes. But the bottom line is that requiring male cheerleaders to limit their excessive or theatrical behavior will NOT result in one less person bullying my kid.

Double shimmy! I love your post and I'm beyond disgusted by the USASF.

It's not like the world will suddenly say, "oh! Male cheerleaders are not overly theatrical so therefore you are NOT a 'queerleader' carry on!" just because of this rule.

Why don't we try focusing on the real issues of sportsmanship, diversity and common human decency in a way that produces authentic conversations rather than telling our boys to not "act gay." smh.

He killed that dance !!!!

The ACLU Intake counselor I have been working with is transferring everything I presented to someone higher up at the ACLU. They called today to let me know I will be hearing back from someone on Monday regarding the issue. They basically said since they took everything down and sent out the email regarding they are going to review it - everything is pretty much at a stand still.

GLAAD called back! They let me know they have had some other phone calls about it and several people are currently working on the issue. They knew that the USASF pulled everything down. They are waiting to see what the USASF's next move is before they take their next step. Apparently the Los Angeles GLAAD has someone who used to cheer on staff.

Lets hope for a public apology soon.

Has anyone else heard anything back from anyone? The lawyer I talked to made a connection between what was said and because they singled out a group of individuals because of a physical characteristic that they have no choice in. It would be discriminatory.
