I do not think that just because a company owns a gym, it is automatically not scored fairly. I guess what sticks in my mind is that in a close competition divion, there are going to be questions for whoever finishes second. As I have said before, it's best to guard against the appearance of bias, too.
completely agreed!

I am not so sure about this. I am not sure when we became varsity owned but I can distinctly remember when I was little we stopped going to uca because our coaches thought we were scored unfairly. Over the past few years that I came back to we went to WSF and cheersport consistently every year without any problems. I know we went to cheersport when I was younger because I have a jacket in my closet but again I'm not sure when we became varsity owned. I do know some of our old coaches who started the gym work there but like I said in my previous post we don't get any breaks there.
Whenever your gym became a Premier gym, you are then affiliated by Varsity. Varsity owns Premier.

Just a question, because I'm not sure of this...
Was WSF started by some of the folks involved at Rockstar?

We've always been Premier Sharks so i suppose we've always been a Premier gym. I think Premier hasn't always been owned by Varsity. then again, i could be wrong.
Idk the dates, Idk the details but I know Premier is currently owned by Varsity. Premier teams should not be allowed to compete at Varsity events IMO. But I don't see my opinion going far in this situation.

I would agree with you I varsity didn't own a huge percentage of competitions especially bid competitions. I think you would be hard pressed to find a time when a premier team was favored at a varsity event. If that were true, back in 2007 I believe great white was in 1st over stingrays at UCA first day. Both teams had amazing performances day 2 and stingrays beat us because they were just better with difficulty. If we were favored we would have won and it prob would have made sense because of day 1 but we didn't. We went on to get fourth at worlds and that was that. I don't see why we can't compete if we're not being favored.

I have never said you were or would be favored. I just think it is bad business. If I am the coach of a team and the owner of the competition, regardless of the result speculations will occur. Perception is reality. There is no way that it should be allowed. I don't mean anything against any kid, parent or coach at a Premier gym. I think it's the same as CAC at Cheersport. Cheersport gives out a ton of bids, and there is no doubt in my mind that CAC would perform and EARN a bid but it just shouldn't happen. Some choose to self impose and remove their gym from comps, some don't. I feel a rule should be created and enforced.

i agree with you, in theory. in the olden days when varsity didn't own everything it wasn't too difficult to avoid most, if not all varsity events in a season. now, with varsity owning nearly everything, in order to see real competition or go to a bigger nationals 80-90% of choices are a varsity brand.

while morally varsity should say "hey we own this gym, so to be fair, you can't compete here" that would ruin the monopoly they have on things, and take away some of their profit (because it doesn't look like they're waiving comp fees for their gyms either.)

and a small part of me thinks it's okay that they compete there... because it's not like the owner of varsity is in the actual gym coaching kids. they are sitting back in their offices collecting profit from those kids, but i don't see varsity sending in the best choreographers/music producers/tumbling coaches to make sure their gyms win. (or maybe they do and i'm wrong. it happens :p )

And honestly if a rule like that went into place I wouldn't have a problem with it because it makes sense but I don't see it happening because varsity owns so many competitions.

I am speaking only for my gym which might different because varsity is made up of some of our old coaches and they expect a lot from us and get mad if we don't live up to the expectation which is understandable because they started the gym and want us to do well. But really they don't give us anything. We paid all the same competition fees however ridiculous they were, the only thing I ever saw was from time to time an employee would visit to make sure everything was ok and if we did bad at a competition they would call up the coaches and ask what the deal was but I haven't seen which I was a cheerleader and taught preschool classes there so I don't see a lot of behind the scenes but from my experience I didn't see any kind of anything from varsity.
