Verified Accounts

I think it would be awesome to require that participants in the parent board and coaches board be verified. Just because they're verified by admin doesn't mean identity has to be revealed on the boards, right? Due to recent events, I bet your parents would atleast be supportive.

That is something @andre and I are discussing. To be verified there should be no anonymity, but I don't necessarily like putting full names on here. You can still find out my full name (rather easily with a google search and the position I listed). So don't think the lack of a name being on here would mean you could hide who someone was.

Yeah, I don't care if people know who I am (there are plenty here who do), but I'm not about to post my full name so every crazy who doesn't agree with my opinion or my gym can come harass me in my private life.

I think it is a risk those who are verified take. Though there is enough ways to block people if needed.

So as a parent would it show "Verified Member: Parent at Stingrays All Stars" or just "Verified Member: Parent"? What if you were just a fan and not associated with a gym?

I don't think being a verified parent provides much utility. Neither being a verified athlete, unless something about the position provided utility in verifying who they are.

My rule of thumb currently is that they must make some type of living off being involved in cheerleading.

So it would be like Verified Twitter accounts where you have to actually be someone kind of famous to be verified?

Like it would make sense for Justin Carrier and Les Stella to be verified, but it doesn't really make any sense for someone like me to be. I'm not anyone in the industry, even if I have texted with you.

Yes, correct. But I verified @NEeliteseven because he is a coach and is quite active even though he is less known (and I have talked to him a few times outside of the board).

What is interesting about Fierce Board is everyone has equal opportunity to say something, but I have never had a good way to let people know certain members have a little bit more credit to their username. I think this will help that.

I have credit because my name is green :p

In any case, I know what you mean. There's no way for a newbie to the know that BlueCat is Jody and that his posts carry a lot of respect and weight.

I have no issues being verified, if you want me to be. Though we've never spoken, we are facebook friends lol

I have more people waiting to confirm being my friend on facebook than i have friends. i rarely look at who is my friend on there anymore. im terrible.

I kind of like the idea of verifying parents in some way. Maybe not as official but maybe that will cut down on people trying to tell parents they are incorrect about issues at their gym or with their child which they are clearly more informed about. (i.e. certain posters saying Susie XYZ is supposedly trying out for Team A when they don't know they are actually talking to Susie XYZ's mom) Maybe that's an issue for another day but just a thought... Cut down on extraneous conversation.
