Working on a game for people to play with @Ashley and wanted to get some peoples opinions. I am thinking of creating a Fantasy Cheer league. A way for people to pick and pull for their favorite teams throughout the season (no this would no involve individuals).

The idea right now is you can create a league with you and your friends (as many as you want in the league) or compete in the overall league with everyone. Before the start of every month you choose worlds eligible (for now, can look at expanding later) teams for Dec, Jan, Feb, and Mar. You can choose new teams for every month but they must compete in at least one two day competition for that month. For each team you pick the average percentage of perfection score you think that team will get that month.

So, for example, lets say you chose Craptastic allstars and said you think they will get a 90% average for December. Craptastic competes at two events that month: a Varsity event and a random event that uses some weird scoring system based on 777 points. Craptastic got a 91 on the V scoresheet (which also happens to be a 91% percentage of perfection) and a 731 on random event. 731 / 777 is 94.1% for PofP which means Craptastic averaged a 92.55%. Calculate the difference (so 2.55) and minus that off a score of 100. So right now my score is 97.45. I do that for every team I picked. At the end of the month I end up with a score.

Every month I add up those scores until I end up with a final score and we see the winner!

What does everyone think? Suggestions and adjustments welcome.

I was trying to figure out a while ago how to do it with individual athletes, like in fantasy football etc., but that would be an awful lot of work and involve knowing every single member of the teams to be able to work out individual stats etc. I was thinking that potentially it may be possible with stunt groups for all girl, but it would still take an awful lot of time to work out figures. If I ever get some free time I might have a bit of a play with it, but I really like this idea.
What would happen if there's an injury or some extenuating circumstances (can't really think of any off the top of my head) and some/all of the routine can't hit? Do you just end up with an anomalous low score and that's it? Because it doesn't really reflect the skill of the team, although I guess that's how it would work at a comp

I suck at Math. Can I still play?

Yes. You don't need to do all the calculation, just understand the basic concept. You are trying to guess, on average, the score of a team.

Will there be any kind of bonus or deduction for picking a heavy favorite v. Team Podunk?

Right now it is just about the accuracy of picking your team. Is there a way to reward choosing a team that is less a favorite? Maybe +1 bonus for a team whos score is below 90?

If a team gets a low score it averages in for that month and hurts your chances. If I had craptastic getting a 90 and they had a BOMB at one comp and got a 70 and then an 90 at another they would average an 80. That is a 10 point difference than what you thought and it would come off your 100 points. That is kinda the 'game' of it.

So as a playing example I pick my 5 teams for December and scores:

Orange - 95
F5 - 93
SE - 94
Wildcats - 96
Staws - 92

My friend also pics his 5 teams:

Orange - 92
F5 - 97
Rockstar - 93
Macs - 90
Smoed - 96

In the month of December it doesn't matter if Orange competes once and F5 competes 17 times, we take the average percentage of perfection score for the month. So people playing don't have to try and find a team competing a bunch, just once.

January 1st we calculate December:

Orange got a 96
F5 a 97
SE a 94
Wildcats a 95
Staws 95
Rockstar a 92
Macs a 94
Smoed a 93

So my score:

Orange 95 - 96 = 1
F5 93 - 97 = 4
SE 94 - 94 = 0
Wildcats 96 - 95 = 1
Staws 92 - 95 = 3

1+4+0+1+3 = 9

100 Points for December - 9 points I was off gives me a 91

My friends score:
Orange 92 - 96 = 4
F5 97 - 97 = 0
Rockstar 93 - 92 = 1
Macs 90 - 94 = 4
Smoed 96 - 93 = 3
4 + 0 + 1 + 4 +3 = 12

100 Points for December - 12 points I was off gives me a 88

Going into January I am beating my friend 91 to 88. I can choose 5 new teams and 5 new scores. He can do the same or stick with the same 5 teams and the same 5 scores.

Is there going to be someplace (quick links, maybe?) where we can click from here to check results? What if we can't access a score quickly - sometimes EPs take their sweet time posting scores, and I've seen them skip a score on posted results.

As a group effort I bet we can piece together scores from all the available.

Didn't have anything specific in mind. Just trying to figure out a way to keep everyone from only choosing the usual suspects.

Kind of like a point spread.

Hrmm... let me think about it. I wanted to do something that is fun to pick teams all year long

If your main points are determined by your accuracy, AND you are given bonus points (they would have to be negative bonus points to make this work mathematically, lol) for simply choosing a non-favorite, what would be the point of picking a favorite in the first place? I suppose their PoP may be more consistent... but that isn't always the case. If you pick a second- or third-tier team that consistently scores a PoP in the low 80s (and thus choose your picks for the month as low 80s for the team), you would also get the benefit of the non-favorite bonus points and thus have a better shot at winning.

Perhaps I shouldn't give away my strategy, hmmmmm. ;)

Or make a guide for those of us who want to participate, but don't fully understand on how to play. Maybe I am the only one. I've never played Fantasy football, though, either. I just plan on attempting to participate and learn as I go.
