I didn't know a nice gesture from one program to another could be turned into a problem for some...
It doesn't look like a publicity stunt, and I don't think JTV could get TG to give away a bid just for views on YouTube. Top Gun got 2nd and probably thought it wouldn't be fair for coed elite to win & have nothing to show for it. You can tell those two teams really do respect each other. And let's be honest, we all know TG will get another bid soon.

In response to this, something caught my attention. The varsity rep said something like, "If I wanted to, I would have changed the scores to have Top Gun win, but I didn't because you were the champions today."

I have always felt like competition companies have done this behind the scenes, because they want a certain team to win or a certain team to get a certain bid after comparing the scores. I actually think it has happened far too many times in all honesty but I have no idea and quite frankly don't think it's fair unless a coach disputes a score. Whoever the judges scored higher should be who hit the score sheet for that certain competition better to keep everything standardized. I don't think it's fair to be judged by the name worn on a chest (if that plays into it at all). Can anyone share an experience/response to this?

I think what he was TRYING to say was that they could have changed the score sheets to make TG the winner to make the whole 'We don't give two bids to the same program' thing much smoother on ASC's part, but even if they "couldn't/wouldn't" give them (CE) the bid, they at least deserved to know they were the winners. I had to imagine that ALL the CEA/TG/etc teams knew it could be a potential issue that they're all competing for.

As for your other idea- it's entirely possible. As long as judges are paid by EPs and not someone else, there will always be that perception. Even if that's changed, it will STILL be a thought in someone's mind.

And for how the whole thing looked on camera (as a general statement)- in 'your' mind, how was this supposed to look? What sort of behavior was or wasn't missing from the whole shebang? 'Cause I'm in film- and if this were a movie, it would NOT have looked that awkward. How many of those CE/TG kids ACTUALLY know each other, and not just on instagram? Think about that vague person from your tuesday/4th period class who you've spoken to maybe six times in your entire life. Now imagine them handing you $25,000. How would you react? Because I'd probably have my TBF on, and it would NOT look cute.

American Cheer Flyers- GSSA Super Six Performance

I'm in love with their pyramid. It's so difficult but also unique and beautiful. Also that first stunt sequence is looking pretty good. Just needs a little cleaning up, but Double Up Stretchs and stretch to stretch ticks from all 7 groups.... Props to them!!
Definitely a team to watch out for.

More then likely its cause they had to wait around and get permission to hand over the bid, so coed elite probably already knew that top gun wanted to give them the bid before this video was made. so video comes off kinda awkward... like "ya we just got a bid, but had to stand around for 2 hours waiting for it" kinda deal. ha. but im sure the kids on top gun and coed elite are all sweet, i doubt they were trying to be fake.
It was maybe 5 minutes. CSP hadn't even finished talking to her team after awards (we were all waiting around wanting to get on the road since it was pretty close to midnight) and they came barreling out of the other room.

I can speak for myself personally that I asked the same question in my surprise whether we were going to or even could accept it. And when a sweet TGLC kid came over and told me what they just did (I asked her) I even said, "no that's your bid you can't give it to us"

Her response was "yes we can, they earned it."

good lord. please tell me about a NON-awkward time involving 60 teenage kids. everything about that age is awkward.

TG was just doing a nice thing.
60 kids who don't know each other and 10 minutes before were rivals on the mat.

When TGLC ran (and I mean ran) over to the coed team meeting those looks in the picture were pretty much from that. Here's 36 kids you don't know in the awkward situation that just happened running toward you with their full paid banner in the lead. All of coed and the parents were sortof side-eyeing that because who would've ever guessed what was about to happen.

CSP was the funniest. The varsity guy was in the front of the pack and said: "Courtney we need to talk to you." And her response was to side eye him and say, "am I in trouble?"

HAHAHAHAHAHA

I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt awkward watching that. I don't think the whole thing was staged, I'm sure TG genuinely felt that they had stolen the paid bid from CEA and that CEA deserved it. But the video made me feel like they were trying to shove the humanity and this "miracle" down my throat. The video makes it feel like such a publicity stunt. I am proud of TG for being selfless but geez-louise, everything that comes out of CEA feels like a forced fairy tale. The song at the end was over the top and unneeded.

On an unrelated note, I enjoy the cleaning up SE has done in the past few weeks. Their routine looks a lot less chaotic. I was impressed.

I have zero opinion about whether it was staged, not staged, genuine (ok, really I think it was) but for the love of all things bad music, We Are the World? Really? There are hundreds of other songs that would have fit better than this one. I love the videos this company does, btw, but not this music choice. ;)

Alright, I feel better now. Carry on. :D

hold up. "We are the World" is not bad music....it's just an incredibly poor choice for this situation in the grand scheme of life and the intent of "We are the World"

It's an incredibly nice gesture, don't get me wrong. But in my opinion (again, MY opinion) it's been blown a little out of proportion. It's not like TG forfeited their chance to go to Worlds and sent CEA in their place. They will get another paid bid. In fact I'll put money on that they will get one their next bid competition. Someone on twitter compared it to giving away an Olympic Gold Medal. Ehhh, no. I don't think you get the chance to go for an Olympic Gold Medal again the next weekend.

I'll probably get hung out to dry for this. But like I said, don't get me wrong, I think it's very nice. And I agree that it was crappy of ASC to put the teams in that place to begin with.

Hmmm, well, I didn't like it when it came out and I still don't. ;)
