Hi! So i know a lot of us have super busy schedules and the worst thing is being tired/ sluggish at practice! Do you guys have any suggestions of snacks to eat before practice to keep energy up?

Mountain Dew and pixie Stix?

Just kidding! (although you'd have energy for sure!) My kids like to eat fruit and cheese before practice. Or grilled chicken (my younger one lives on grilled chicken really). Basically anything that's a leaner protein and usually some fruit. Also the more water they drink throughout the day, the better they feel at practice. If they eat anything packaged with a lot of refined sugars they're sluggish all night.

Then you must have some good grilled chicken recipes! Do share! (You can PM me, I don't want to hijack the thread)

various trail mixes. You can either get them already made or make them yourself, which I like to do. Dried fruit, nuts (various kinds but my kids love almonds), shaved coconut, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, white chocolate chips, chex cereal, pretzels, you can really use anything. I mix it in snack or sandwich size zip lock bags so that they can grab them before school or practice.

Grilled chicken quesedila quick recipe - use no stick spray and saute the chicken with or without diced onion. remove from pan, put a tortilla in the pan and add the chicken and some shredded cheese. Put another tortilla on top. cook on med heat for a couple of minutes just to melt the cheese, flip and cook for another minute. Add lettuce, tomato, salsa or a little sour cream if you want. You can get pre-cooked grilled chicken which is great if you are a college student and have limited cooking availability.

Oh I forgot this one. Pb&j yogurt:

Vanilla Greek yogurt
1 tablespoon peanut butter (the healthiest you can stand to eat)
1 teaspoon preserves (I use sugar free blackberry)
About 10 almonds
Red grapes

I usually put all the stuff in the bowl first and throw the yogurt on top, rather than stirring it up.

It's filling and has all the right things for an energy boost. Usually keeps us full for a few hours.

My kids like apples and peanut butter or bananas and peanut butter (we do the natural, no added sugar kind).

I also second trail mix.

Sometimes CP with make a protein shake with a banana in it and drink on the way to practice.

I love this idea - thanks!

We always tell our girls to eat a protein and a carb that's easy to grab on their way out
Cut up apples with peanut butter
String cheese with grapes
a few lowfat grahm crackers crumbled into yogurt is a fave

A quick, easy, portable snack is wraps. You can put anything in a wrap! Start with a tortilla (whole wheat is probably the healthiest), add some sort of healthy spread such as hummus, any nut butter, a little cream cheese, etc and then choose a protein(s) and some veggies/fruit. Kids tend to love wraps because they can choose what they want. I keep some meats and veggies sliced up in the fridge so that cp can throw a wrap together on her own. When she is craving something sweet we like whole wheat tortillas, spread with some peanut butter and topped with sliced bananas. We even throw in some mini chocolate chips sometimes because you shouldn't deprive yourself all the time! I also like to use the tomato/basil wraps, spread with a little marinara sauce, add a few slices of pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, fresh basil and mushrooms for a quick and healthy pizza style wrap. I'm sure it isn't super healthy, but since it's not on top of a big bowl of pasta (which I LOVE) I call it a win! :)

I am an alumni now but recently got into fitness and weight training. So I definitely need some energy before my workouts. 1-2 hours before i'll have a slow digesting carb (ex: oatmeal, bread) with a fast digesting carb (ex:fruit) and some protein (ex. skim milk) i'll even throw in some nut butters! Then right before my workout 30-45 minutes i'll have some more protein (ex: egg whites, chicken, more skim milk) with some caffeine. Quick fixes for me if I don't have the time have been quest bars <3 the flavors are delicious and the things you can make with them are amazing! Feel free to message me if you need anymore ideas!

One of the best energy recovery drinks I have ever used is one of the most simple. Chocolate milk. It has just the right amount of protein and simple sugars to get you recovered quickly. As for beforehand, a banana is always great to boost energy!
