I've gotten the "you don't seem like the cheerleader type" before. I think I was just being called ugly as pathetic as that seems. 14 year old boys can be cruel.
My ex boyfriend told me that he and all his friends agreed that I was the ugliest cheerleader on the team. He is the number one reason that I have severe insecurity issues. I hate boys.

I was "Athlete of the Month" in high school twice, both for competitive cheer & people were always tweeting "how can you be athlete of the month if youre not an athlete???" and once the school asked for us to be in our schools commercial & we got made fun of for that as well. Aaaand I got made fun of for doing facials while competing allllllll the time. Plus tons of little things- constantly. I remember even being told my individual district wide awards didn't mean anything.
Cheerleaders don't have it easy when it comes to other people. ESPECIALLY in high school.

Told by peers or administrators? (Either way, that makes me mad.)

Just peers. The administrators were always pretty supportive of our sport!

I just think it's sad because it is a type of bullying- and although it didn't phase me much, it could really hurt someone else.
True. Isn't it sad that young kids are taught that there is a "cheerleader type"? Bullying us just comes naturally to most people because they're actually convinced that we deserve it. And my heart bleeds for girls who think that they can't cheer because they don't look like the girls in the movies. Plus, CAN THE NFL STOP CALLING THEIR DANCERS CHEERLEADERS? YOU'RE ONLY CALLING THEM THAT BECAUSE IT MAKES THEM SEEM MORE MARKETABLE. I hate that a lot of the moms and dads that insult our sport claim that we act subservient to men, and that we cause eating disorders in girls, and that they use NFL "cheerleaders" as examples. Nothing against them or dancing, but WHY IS AMERICA SO DUMB? (Or maybe we're just accustomed to knowing the differences?)

I'm trying to start a meme/hashtag on Twitter.... tell me what you guys think.

I don't know how funny these are, but I'm working on better material.
Following you on twitter just because this is the greatest thing I've seen all day.

Yes! Definitely. I've never been tiny and if anything cheerleading helped me become more confident and give me a better view on the way I looked. It breaks my heart that people won't pursue cheer because they feel they don't have the "look". Cheerleading and the people I have met thru the industry have honestly taught me the most life lessons, and it kills me that not everyone can experience what I did because of stereotypes. I wish everyone could be openminded and accepting.
