How do other small coed teams who can't recruit the way SMOED does, stand a chance? And, ok, I get that they "can" recruit, but how when they don't have the 3-peat and be on a web series become a known "thing" aspect going for them? I mean it is kind of getting to be like a basketball game between an NBA team and the high school team considered the best in the nation anymore...

Also, do all these big name "recruits" to SMOED pay? Or are they scholarship via the many fundraising, media etc. activities?

THIS is the only part that I actually care about. My child and her teammates, if she were on a team in this division, will never have a chance to be competitive with a team like this.

Isn't This the first season they've had a lot of out of state team members? I thought Rob was the only one the '12-'13 season. And none the year before? I might be wrong, who knows

I honestly don't know... I don't follow them that closely. And honestly, I don't mean to single out SMOED as there are other teams that have long "recruited" but this thread was started about SMOED. I'm also not worrying so much about the last past, but about the future... Ultimately I wonder how smaller programs who draw from a fairly local area can go head to head with a team that can "cherry pick" from among the best athletes across the nation and into other countries as well?

I was thinking this watching Brandon this weekend. How defeated you have to feel before you even start knowing they're next to impossible to beat unless they royally screw up.

all i know is if i were on a lower team at cali and was trying out for smoed, i would be devastated to hear that people already have spots before tryouts.
I wonder if that girl who was on it and then got moved down to Snipers (?) in one of the first Cheerleaders episodes this season will make it again. I hope so, I'd like to see her get another chance.

I know of another boy that has received an "invite" to join SMOED next season not mentioned here. The email he received requested that he not tell anyone prior to tryouts. I imagine everyone's email stated the same thing.

See this I don't like. I think it's fine for people to express interest in trying out (i.e. if I were 16 with a double full from out of state and wrote to CSP saying I'm interested in trying out for SE) for a team, but I don't know how I feel about coaches actively recruiting people NCAA-style.

I wonder if they're afraid that if they don't get the best of the best they will not win worlds? Are they afraid of having a team with new people on it? I feel like Smoed is the only team that recruits people. It really makes you think. Surely there are kids in the Cali gyms that have grown up through the program that have the required skills needed to be on Smoed but they're not getting a shot because they do the recruiting thing. Leave recruiting to all the other sports.

Edit: I also think it's okay for gyms to post on twitter/fb "We're looking for a boy/flyer/backspot/mascot etc" and inviting people to send in videos/go to tryouts, but again, I don't really like the idea of contacting specific people urging them to try out.

For some reason, I just keep thinking about that girl who filled in for Jenee for the later half of the season. Like "Hey thanks for winning NCA and Worlds with us, but you're being put back on Snipers next season."

I realize that Angel isn't a flyer, but wasn't there a rumor that Jenee is moving back to Cali?
