Shooting Stars has 1 day of open tryouts for those athletes that are not associated with the gym - if u have what they are looking for then they are invited to try out with the rest of the invitees to SS.

Invites goes out to the WC gym members on awards night, including current Shooting Stars.

The invites go out to in-house athletes Joelle and Elaine want to see tryout for Shooting Stars. They hold open tryouts for everyone else.

If an in-house athlete didn't receive an invite from Joelle and Elaine, but they believe the athlete things they have the skill and such to be on SS, can they attend the open tryout?

Further clarifying the shooting stars tryout process:

There is an open tryout for those not currently at World Cup.
At awards night, there are invites to tryout if you already cheer at World Cup.
If you cheer at World Cup and have the skills for stars but did not receive an invite, there is a tryout for everyone. Essentially it's not exclusive tryouts but the invites are a cute little tradition

Yes they can. Coaches know what skills they are graduating out and invites athletes they feel that can fill those spots.

interesting to see how differently gyms (especially the major ones) run tryouts

The only thing I've been thinking this entire thread is:

When did cheerleading become about individuals over the team????????

I don't know about you, but I could not care any less about which individual athlete is on the mat. SMOED needs 20(?) people on the mat- Angel Rice isn't going to do the entire routine by herself.

oh ok sorry to cause a stir, my bad I didn't know!
I just went back and reread your last post because I was confused what you meant here, and I totally misread it; I thought you were asking how the Shooting Stars tryouts worked, not referencing it to make a comparison to SMOED. No stir!

I thought I saw somewhere you also have to do an interview with Joelle and Elaine before being placed on shooting stars. I'm not sure if there is any truth to that

Interviews are at the end of tryouts. It's typically one question - to get to know the athlete and how they carry themselves. It's usually fun.

But, they are All Stars on SMOED. Just a little pun, sorry. From what I've seen SMOED doesn't highlight one individual. Every team member has something to contribute and the coaches will utilize their talents in a manner most favorable to the team. Your right, twenty individual stars does not make a star team. And though they may have been a standout at their last gym, they'll have to leave their egos at the CALI gym door. It will be interesting to see it all come together. But, I have faith it will come together, don't you ?

Also maybe you new people don't know this BUT-

Any thread with more than 10 pages is a worthwhile read whether you give two poops about the topic or not. Hence why I every so often end up in the 'Cheerleaders Season 2' thread (I don't watch the show as it's not my cup of tea). There's bound to be something interesting/a potential future reference (a la NOBODY EATS MY CASSEROLE) in there eventually. Necessary catching up.
