What kind of advice ?

You said you cheered for years at CEA. Ask her what you need to do to start a gym and work toward your dream.

What kind of advice ?

Didn't you say earlier that you cheered for her? Seems a logical place to get some good coaching advice.

ETA: posted the same thought as @ACEDAD! Maybe that makes me awesome!!!! #probablynot

@Fierce_Elite I don't think @armycheermom said anything that elicited that sort of response. It's those kind of over the top responses that she's talking about. You obviously know you have a lot to learn, so why not start doing that here? What she's saying is a lot of people here have a lot of knowledge and insight.

And don't dare discount parents that have had their kids in cheer for a long time. They are an excellent source for input---those are the customers you seek.
Thank you for this. Additionally parents may be professionals in other areas (like business, corporate management, finance, accounting, public relations etc.) and a new program would do well to listen to the expertise in their building even if it has nothing to do with grips, tumbling and hair bows.

I never gave names of anyone who I cheered for. As for gyms yes. But not offical names of any coaches.

Maybe you should reread her response. Basically assuming that I would fail. None of you know who I am or what I do for a living. You don't have the right to tell me what I have to learn. These boards gets ridiculous. Its not fair for me to have sit and read people telling me that I have a lot to learn just because of my response. I can tell you a lot more about cheerleading than some parents could ever try and tell me. We come on here to seek advice , not get disowned just because we want to start our own teams.

... it's kind of implied that if you cheered at CEA, you probably met her at least once and could go back and ask for advice. If not, fine, but don't act like it makes no sense for people to make that assumption.

I just really don't understand what's the big deal about people wanting to do new things. If someone is serious about cheer, sure as heck that potential coach isn't going to do anything to intentionally harm students. That's what everyone is making everything seem like on this specific thread. The user who posted this thread was asking questions because she was lost. The least you so called former and current coaches, cheer parents, and cheerleaders could do, is give the person the advice that she wants. Not tell her she cant do it or something is impossible etc. etc. That's very discouraging. How do you think CA got here? CEA got here? they all had to start some where. There's nothing bad about starting a recreational team. Matter of fact, that's what I planning on doing next year instead of the All star team. As said earlier, you have to start from the bottom before you make your way up top.

I'm just going to leave this here as a bookmark so I can come back later and respond. Frankly, the responses that are currently coming to mind are not worded as positively as I like to make them. Should it stay like this it's because I couldn't find a positive way to word it.

As an aside, Hitting that "pause" button before you post emotionally is a good habit to get into online....I would suggest you consider doing the same if you intend to establish yourself as a respectable business owner and/or coach.

In no way do I mean to make things a big moderation out of every post I reply on. Though it defiantly comes across that way. Its just, I really don't like for people to tell other people they can't do something. Its very annoying and discouraging for those future humans who could possibly become respected coaches and gym owners one day. You veterans on this board need to realize, How you word things , can really hurt a person. It can hurt them for a lifetime. You veterans never think you're wrong for anything you say. Than blame newbies for pulling the "you're mean" card. When that's not true. We just don't need the extra sarcasm, or just flat out rude responses for no reason. We come on here to seek guidance from great coaches and gym owners. We expect truthful, and positive responses. Not ones full of sarcasm and disowning just because we're new to the business. You're not understanding what I'm saying. Its okay though. Because one day someone will treat you as such, and then you'll look back and say I was right. That words truly do effect how a person reacts to certain situation.

I do realize that not only as a poster but as a person. Hence the reason I chose not to respond in haste. There was nothing sarcastic about my response. Merely a suggestion for you presenting yourself far more professionally than you have this far.

It's not what you are posting, but how you are posting. There is no problem with coming on here and asking for advice, but you have to know how to handle that advice. There was a very similar thread started very shortly after this one and the one that you started asking for the exact same advice, what to do to start a program. The reason why that thread did not turn badly is because that poster was very respectful and professional in the way she worded everything and she took the time to let everyone know what all she had done to help her start a team. Anytime someone offered their advice she did not come back with a rude response and questioning every thought or suggestion they offered. And insulting parents is probably the absolute worst thing you could do when you are trying to start a new program, when the people you are typically advertising to are parents.

The only other thing I will say is that people treat you the way you treat them, and that goes for everything in life. I can't think of a positive way to word what I really want to say, so I will stop there.

@Fierce_Elite I felt there were several points when this conversation could take a positive turn. Since you cheered for years at CEA I suggested you seek Court's advice. You seem to have rejected that. Maybe you don't have a close personal relationship with her but if you were at CEA for years I can't believe she wouldn't give you some time

So talk to Kelly or Sarah or Ben then. If your dream is to start your own all star team then talk to people that you know. There are a lot of sharp people here and you'd be amazed how willingly people will help. But it's not free; the person requesting help has to "pay" by showing they've put forth some effort as well.

Everything I've said to you, you took as being mean or hateful or sarcastic. I've tried to help but you don't want to listen.

I wish you the best.

I don't mind asking them for help. Its just they are so busy with the upcoming season. I don't want to bother them unless its something extreme and no one on here can answer.
