I'm undecided on them.. i think they're kinda cute for youth or mini teams but don't really like it for senior teams.. i agree with your point about maybe doing it at the beginning for showcase or something but then getting their own routine, i think that would be better! its cute to see, but id probably be only interested in seeing the routine done once, if that makes sense..
The CEA Sr 3 looked amazing doing SE music/routine that was toned down to their level. Have to say one of the best level 3's I have seen!

I like the 'tribute' routines to and extent. I feel like they are going to be over done in the coming seasons but I can imagine that CS youth 5 were more than elated to be doing a routine to the World Champion team from the gym that they look up to and aspire to be on one day.

As for the Senior 3lite, I absolutely LOVE the routine.

Am I the only one who isn't a fan of these "tribute" routines? It's cute to do it like once at the beginning of the season for fun. But if you use it all year round, it looks like coaches got lazy and didn't want to hire someone to come in and make a routine or pay for a new mix. Idk, it just looks tacky IMO. I'd be a little mad if I was on one of those teams. I'd want my own routine, not a leftover routine that's already been done better...

i'm 100% with you. i figured with the way CEA works, that the 3lite team is just a "for fun" crossover team and i'm sure they're all competing on another "real" team with their own routine and music so i was kinda, sorta okay with it. but the more teams that do it, the more i hate it.

Do they actually though? I mean if you look at all the teams that won Worlds last year, for the most part, their groups all do the same stunt. It can be a great visual if done properly (GT Black 2009, TGLC 2014) but otherwise I find it just pointless and sloppy.
I definitely think they do. Look at SE 2013...
I guess it's just a personal preference, and depends if you like that style. When it's done right I think it can look fantastic, but I do agree that SE's this year is perhaps a little too busy.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a "pointless" concept, but I'll jump on the bandwagon and argue that I'm generally not a fan. In general, stunt groups shouldn't be twisting (1.5 ups/ double ups) while other people are strictly tick toking... those two skills don't complement each other well from a visual stand point when performed simultaneously.

I agree and like differentiated stunts only when either the entire team is doing the SAME stunt, but an even amount of groups isn't doing the most difficult version (think Lady Lightning and the turning/non turning tick toks) OR when the two different groups aren't actually moving at the exact same time and merely come together for a body position.

Call me a sucker, but that's part of the reason I've always loved Rays--> 2005 until now. They know how to throw in a simple power press for the visual effect and call it a day. #clean I love a good ripple stunt or basket too (like Lady Bullets baskets or Stars Big Girls Don't Cry sequence this season, but unlike Sr Elite's gazillion kick doubles sequence. Haha, sorry- it's overkill).

3lite is predominantly a crossover team, in which case I think the tribute idea is kind of cute. But I definitely agree that it might be weird for serious competition teams to start competing these routines.

I can assure you, at least in our case, our Y5 were all extremely honoured and excited to do their little tribute to Great Whites. The younger girls in our gym, for the most part, would all probably kill to do something like that. These girls look up to Great Whites so much and from what I've seen, they love that they get to do what they're doing.

CA Austins J5 (second performance, guess first stopped by injury)

CA Austins large J4

Hey these are my videos:) lol I made it a habit to start videoing teams yall might want to see and upload them to my channel.

The j5 performance was a 2nd performance due to injury.

If you recall the video of them I posted the week prior at NCA nov 16 didn't finish because of an injury. Then this past weekend nov 22 at Cheer America in the standing tumbling section toward the beginning of the routine there was a collision. I heard the collision involved the same girl that was injured the week before at the NCA performance so if that is true then I feel sorry for that girl and I hope she is doing alright.

This was the second performance, I did not record the one the injury happened in.

That's awful, I hope she's okay. Collisions are terrifying, especially for the juniors and little kids.

Because....

LEVEL 5 BUILDING SKILLS
  1. 1 and ½ - 2 Twisting transitions to an Extended position
  2. 1 Twisting transition to immediate Extended Body position (excluding target and liberty)
  3. Inverted transitions to an Extended position**
  4. Release moves from load in position or above to an Extended position
  5. Twisting switch ups
**Exception: Not level appropriate but will receive credit in Level 3, 4, and 5.

Honestly, there are only so many creative inversions that can be done. My guess is many teams have left them out in the past because unlike standing upright, when inverted, some lean to the side and some just don't have the strength to get upright and vertical. If they do swinging inversions, your bases need to be taller so the flyer will clear the ground. IMO, it is hard to make that many inversions look good and clean.

Invert away, I don't care how many times I see it this year, I'm always impressed.

Plus, in oranges defense that's a super hard way to do them. Everyone else has the flyer leaning so much she's almost laying down but orange actually puts them in a real handstand.

The way smoed does the inversion seems harder too. Rather than pulling their toes down the same way they come up like most teams do, they flip all the way around.

From this view, I count 21 on the floor and only see the little blonde in the back just keep moving out of the way. Maybe I'm wrong? Always a fan of Cali, though!!!
Did someone already talk about the extra flyer who just flew the elite stunt, she only did a kick single, and a full up. I know I'm late. Just surprised.

It would be amazing to see that transition inversion straight to extension, maybe next year.

Stingrays Slate did it to extended one leg last year, they started from the ground instead of from shoulder level though. It's really cool, I was hoping to see some teams doing it this year. Idk though, I don't think it will ever look as amazing as TG 2010 haha.
