Hi! My 12 year old put tumbling mats on her Christmas list...any suggestions for ones that are good for home use? She is a solid level 4 tumbler, working like crazy to get her full at the gym. I wouldn't allow her to do any skills she hasn't mastered yet at home, though. I certainly can't spot her! She and her friends actually took the mattress of her bed last week to tumble on it...didn't strike me as particularly safe or smart so I am looking into this. :) Thanks in advance for any advice.

We have quite a few different tumbling mats in our home but I would honestly say that since your CP is a solid level 4 tumbler that there isn't much to "work on" at home. My kids actually love tumbling onto our 8ft bean bag (Cozy sack brand). It's gets much more use than our cheese mat, flat mat and 4in squishy mat and also doubles as a couch when the kids aren't tumbling on it. My daughter is also a flyer and loves to stunt on the bean bag since it is big enough to catch her double downs.

I agree, my daughter can no longer tumble at home. She will go outside in the grass and do standing tucks but she hasn't been able to tumble in the home for a long time. Our mats go unused as well. About two years ago she pulled it out to to back extension rolls but now it just sits there.

With that being said I ordered Jaylen's cheese mat when she was 5 from Norberts.net and had no issue with it. The flat panel mat Jaylen has my mom bought for me 20 years ago when I started gymnastics for like a month and it's still in amazing condition and that's the mat we still have although it is not being used. I wish it had a brand on it, it truly lasted forever lol!

I guess "work on" isn't really an accurate representation of what she does here...she & her friends make up routines and critique each other...but she isn't doing the skills she is currently trying to get, if that makes sense. She is just now doing her standing full into the pit at the gym, she knows she isn't ready at all to do that at home! (Alas, no pit here!) They tumble in the grass when it is warmer, but I thought this might give her a good indoor surface to play on. Is there a certain manufacturer that sells quality mats? I will check out Norberts, Kris, thanks!

The mats we have bought over the years are from Resilite.com or matsmatsmats.com.
We started with a basic flat mat and added a new one each year when CP10 was younger.

What you describe it also what my kids do in my house. They make up mini routines with friends. They roll around and flop on top of various mats and the bean bags. A futon matress has also been brought into the mix before. Last year my oldest CP asked for a mini round exercise trampoline so that is also part of the fun now. We currently have a whole family room that is safe for just bouncing around. Even my almost 12 year old non-CP loves having a safe place at home to just flop around.

Did u check out Amazon ? They sell Mats also .

OMG...I hope she never finds out about that!! She would lose her marbles to have a spring floor at home...and my husband would think I had lost my mind! ;) Hopefully some nice mats will suffice, thank you all for the info! She is already at the gym 4 days a week, but I think the gym being closed for the holiday brought on this desire for a more complete tumble experience at home, lol!

If I remember correctly a certain cheerleader who was on Smoed and now on Senior Elite had a very small (maybe 2x2 metres) spring floor built in her home. Now I have no idea how much this cost or if it's in your price range but there's a video floating around somewhere that gives the details of where she go it. Might be helpful.

I believe her mom posted where they got it on here somewhere too, though I couldn't tell you which thread. I don't know that she's on much but @lakerfantlc would be the person to ask if anyone is interested. (I know OP Isn't but for others)

Last Christmas my then 8 y/o sister had a spring floor that would cover her whole room on her list. My mom compromised and got her a small cheese mat from Amazon. She absolutely loves it still, although she's almost grown out of it skill wise. (She got it when she was still working bwo and standing bhs, now she is working standing and running tucks.) I remember it being not too expensive, and easily storable... not that it ever got left alone enough to be put away, lol

That's cute... :) Do you know how long it is? I've seen cheese mats in either 48 or 72 inches long. I think 48 is too short? I want to get a 72 inch one for xmas for my girls but they are not cheap. The best I've seen is $195 with free shipping.

I have a cheese mat but it won't let me post a pic

Home Gymnastics Mats - EZ Flex Sport Mats

I have 2 of these (the 2") in my basement. I got the velcro roll so they can be put together to make them longer or wider. They will slide a bit on a wood floor (probably wouldn't be bad on carpet) but my kids used to do a lot of standing tumbling on them. They are fairly lightweight and very easy to store. For the price I like them much better than the panel gymnastics mats.
