I tried out for my college's team a few months ago and was cut. I'm having a very hard time giving up cheerleading, considering it has been my entire life for the last four years.
I have the "required" skills, but I feel like more is needed to actually earn a spot on the team- since I am a weak tumbler I'm not sure I can exceed the requirements. There is another tryout in the fall. Since I already got cut once, would it be a bad idea to try again? Also, is there any advice you could give me for trying out a second time? Thank you so much :)

I sorry you got cut. :( I don't know much about college cheer since I'm the mom of a 7yo all star, but I felt the need to encourage you to try out again. You have to keep trying.. Even if you don't make it this year, keep tumbling and working when you can and keep trying. It's never too late and you should never give up. :)

It's okay! I've accepted it haha. But thank you so much this really means a lot :) I think I just needed some reassurance that it wouldn't be crazy to try again!

Thank you all so much! I'm very nervous already (there's not even a date set!), but its nice to know that re-trying out is a good decision :)

Try out again! They will recognize you and realize you are persistent. I mean, whats the worst that could happen? Give it a shot!

Absolutely try out again. As a coach. I can tell you that it is the cheerleaders who don't give up in situations like the one you face now that stand out during a second tryout. Although there will be athletes whose tumbling may come easier to them than to you, by showing up to tryout again you will show how much you truly love this sport and are willing to set aside any pride or fear of failing you may have to be a part of the team. No matter the outcome, you will leave an everlasting impression on the coach(es) and you will have peace of mind that you gave it another try.

I cut 2 boys from tryouts last season, but gave them both a list of skills they could improve on for next year's tryouts. They both came back this season to tryout and the first thing they did was come up to reintroduce themselves to me, shake my hand and tell me how much they wanted to be a part of the team. Throughout the whole tryout process I couldn't forget how much that stood out to me and how impressed I was with their tenacity and true spirit. There was no way I could not have them on the team if not for the simple fact that their dedication and obvious passion for the sport is something that can benefit the entire program. They both made teams and I have the upmost respect for them for coming back after what must have been a difficult let down last year to try out again.

Don't be afraid to go for what you really want. Leave an impact. Make the coaches know your name by introducing yourself personally. Show up with a smile on your face and be the best cheerleader and person you can be. Good luck!!! I'm rooting for you!

Thank you so much! You have no idea how much this advice means to me :)

Do it! I would go ahead and contact the coach in advance, and ask what things you could work on to improve your try out in the fall... It will show you are determined, and give you a chance to pin point the things to need to hopefully bump you onto the team! If a kid asks me what they need and what they can work on, it shows they want it and are taking it seriously.

Do it! So many times at Clemson we had people just coming in at bad times (they would be a main base and we weren't losing any mains, etc) Almost every time someone came back to tryout again, they ended up making the team! They showed perseverance, improved skills, and that cheering at that school would mean everything to them. You'd be surprised how many people that cheered in college went through the same exact thing you are going through. ;) Good luck and never give up! :)

Worst case, you still don't get a spot. Best case, you do! You'll never know unless you give it another shot. I think reaching out and seeing what you needed to improve on is a great idea and will come across as you being very driven and determined.
