mstealtoyou My gym went to Vegas two years ago and we had fun going on the New York, New York rollercoaster! We wanted to go on the Stratosphere but it was too windy :( The Fashion Show Mall is really neat also, we watched a Betsey Johnson fashion show one time! Margaritaville was a fun restaurant. M&M World is always fun as well! If you have the time we saw a Cirque Du Soleil show was which REALLY cool because it was one where they used trampolines and did lot's of fun tricks! We also saw The Lion King live! It was really surprising how much there was to do for teens and kids! I was 16 when we went. Do you know what hotel you're staying at?

Definitely stay Monday! This will be a very long competition, and will go into the late evening. Plus, it's Vegas!

Funny story: I went to this competition in 2005 and I had to be back Monday for school. My dad took all of our luggage and had a cab waiting and my mom watched me perform and then we ran to the car together (skipped awards). I took off my uniform top in the cab but forgot a tshirt in my carry on so I just had on a sports bra and warmup jacket (plus my skirt, full hair + bow, and makeup). Going through security they made me take off my jacket and I somehow always get chosen for "random" additional screening so I had to stand there for like 10 extra minutes in just a nude colored sports bra and my skirt while they patted me down. USASF would have had a field day if these new image guidelines had been in place then.

If you're staying at MGM, New York New York is right across the street and has tons of restaurants and a roller coaster. A bunch of my team ate at the Italian restaurant in NY NY every year. Definitely do the roller coaster there and walk down to Bellagio to see the fountains. And as someone else mentioned Fashion Show Mall is incredible. I could spend days there in the Topshop alone. If you end up staying Sunday night, just walking up and down the strip and seeing the lights is a cool experience if its your first time to Vegas. Only thing I would recommend is to bring jeans and jackets because it gets chilly at night if you're out walking around

I find it kinda funny that they had to pat you down for an extra 10 minutes even though you only had on a sports bra and skirt lol

It was ridiculous. I was a teenage girl and half naked. I physically couldn't have hidden anything illegal on me if I had wanted to! I somehow have a knack for crazy travel stories haha :)

Thank you so much for that information. What would you suggest for 13 year old appropriate fun??

Take her to Planet Hollywood it's attached to a huge mall, lots of restaurants too. They also have a build a bear if she likes that. Cheeseburger Paradise in the attached mall its the best and they will do team dinners too for about $20. PH is also across the street from Bellagio which has a gorgeous Christmas setup in their gardens. Also you have to go eat at Sugar Factory which is in the Paris Casino.

All the Casinos have free valet parking if someone has a car, oh and the Venetian has tons of shops and Gondola rides. Caesars Palace has tons of shops too. If you have time for a show all the Cirque shows are amazing, check Travel Zoo

Stay away from Circus Circus its gross and very, very smokey NYNY has a much better arcade

Circus Circus adventuredome is good if you are trying to keep someone entertained for a few hours though.. because there is more than one ride. Its an indoor amusement park, so theres quite a few rides. I live here, so i've been a couple times. The rides on top of the stratosphere are a lot of fun, but there are only 3 rides plus you can jump off the side (I have yet too, my parents wont sign the release. lol) I have never ridden the coaster at NYNY but i heard its fun. I'm pretty sure there is a zipline somewhere on the strip, but i could be wrong. I've walked the strip a few times. It's fun, but can be pretty busy, and filled with drunk people at night, but its really not as scary as everyone makes it out to be. The show at treasure island is okayy. The water show at the bellagio is worth watching. The fire show at the mirage is pretty cool too. Theres lots of shopping. As someone said above fashion show mall is to die for. M&M factory has never interested me a whole lot (the fact that i'm diabetic is a contributing factor, hahaha) but it is good for kids. Sugar factory is a nice resturaunt/ candy store at the paris. As far as the comp goes, times vary.. hahaha

Last year we could have made a late flight Sunday. The year before there would have been no possible way (so helpful, right?)

Thank you so much!! I really appreciate you taking the time to type that out. It was very helpful and I will refer back to this thread closer to Dec

Here's another great new place near the venue, there's so much in that area. Downtown Vegas is not the best of areas and you would need to drive for sure. Its kinda wild. Oh and getting out of Vegas airport is always crazy, and they are the most strict security I have ever been through and rude too.

Crystals at CityCenter
