@ErinS "Casket sharp" oh my lord I just spit out my coffee.

Also, they changed the vault scoring. An Amanar was worth 6.5 back in 2012 and it's now only worth 6.3. All of the vault scores this quad are lower as a result.

Team GB has just been announced:

Men: Max Whitlock, Nile Wilson, Kris Thomas, Brinn Bevan and Louis Smith.

Overall very happy with this team but gutted for Dan Purvis, really think we'll miss him.

Women: The Downies, Claudia Fragapane, Amy Tinkler and Ruby Harrold.

My ideal team had Gabby Jupp over Ruby but still think it's a great team!

I am truly saddened by the fact that the committee has chosen Louis, a one piece specialist who has been very inconsistent (let alone awful at representing us over social media) over Sam or Dan. Dan is our most consistent gymnast and will be a great loss to the team and Sam's form in recent competitions have been remarkable, even beating Max on floor. I have no idea what went through the committee minds by placing 1 potential PH individual medal (even though Max is the reigning world champion and continues to outscore him) over someone who could contribute a lot more to the team in the team final. I believe they will live to regret this decision but I hope Louis proves me wrong. Totally agree on having Gabby Jupp over Ruby Harold in a dream team.

On a positive note I am really happy that Brinn has made the team, he was one of my favourites and to come back from an injury this quickly is outstanding. It makes up for the fact that Maggie didn't make team USA for me. I'm also ecstatic that both the Downie sisters have made the team! What an amazing feeling and story for their family.

Overall, apart from one, I am very happy with the team and believe our men's team is specifically strong (even with Louis, sigh) and really hope we can improve on our third place team finish in London. Also really rooting for Max and believe he can be our first Olympic AA champion. Just mark my words!

P.S - Nile Wilson follows me on twitter and it's kind of cool that I can now say an Olympian follows me on Twitter....

Predictions:

FX: Max, Kristian, Nile/Brinn
VT: Kristian, Brinn, Max/ Nile
HB: Nile, Kristian, Max
PB: Nile, Max, Brinn
PH: Max, Louis, Brinn
Rings: Nile, Max, Brinn

AA: Max and Nile

So much pressure on Nile, Max and Brinn who would have to compete on nearly every apparatus in the team competition, especially on Brinn who has just come back from a recent serious injury. Once again, this just proves what a poor decision the committee made. Sam would have contributed to floor (recently scored 15.650), high bar (recently scored 15.000) and vault (recently scored 15.200). Dan could have contributed on nearly every event.

UB: Becky, Ellie, Ruby
VT: Ellie, Claudia, Amy
FX: Ellie, Claudia, Amy
BB: Becky, Ellie, Claudia

AA: Ellie, Claudia/ Amy

I'm a lot more educated on men's recent scores but that will be my best guess for the women's.

I could not agree with you more, you took the words right out of my mouth! Hoping it doesn't prove to be a costly decision...

I hope you're right about Max, would be amazing!

in case anyone wants to look at 2012 scores and set up for a frame of reference

McKayla is cut off with a 15.9 on vault

It almost makes sense for Aly to just compete Vault, Floor and Beam. (Her bars score isn't needed and it's nothing to write home about)

Laurie, Simone and Gabby do all 4 events

Madison just do bars

Then for finals

Aly- vault, floor and beam
Gabby- bars
Simone- all four---or sit out bars
Laurie- all four or sit out bars
Madison- you know why you're here

It's not that I think Aly is a better gymnast than Laurie (or even Gabby). From what we saw last weekend, at this point Gabby wouldn't qualify for AA over either one of them. I just think Laurie will put up a better bars score in qualifying and Aly realistically can medal individually on vault, floor and beam

The good part of bringing 4 all arounders is that they will push each other for the chance to attempt it. Simone is a lock obviously. I still think Marta will let Aly try, given the 2012 tiebreaker indecent and her consistency so far this season. If it's those two, I think it defaults Gabby into the third AA spot given her bars situation. If Aly keeps calm and stays the eff on the bars, her floor and vault score could make up for a subpar bars rotation in AA.

But I could really see it going a number of ways. It's the blessing and the curse of having so many all arounders.

I could see Aly Laurie Simone doing AA in quals and then letting Gabby do bars in finals over Aly

My quals lineup would be:
Vault: Laurie, Gabby, Aly, and Simone
Bars: Aly, Simone, Gabby, and Madison
Beam: Laurie, Aly, Gabby, Simone
Floor: Gabby, Laurie, Aly, Simone

With TF being:
Vault: Gabby, Aly, and Simone
Bars: Laurie, Gabby, and Madison
Beam: Laurie, Aly, and Simone
Floor: Laurie, Aly, and Simone

Laurie's scores are gonna drop at the Olympics. There's no way she'll be scoring as high as she did at Trials. Aly, I think, was scored better in comparison to home scoring at London. Simone obviously does AA in quals. I think Aly should. Gabby probably will because she's Gabby.

Gabby is going to have a tough time qualifying for the AA final and bars final though. Aly isn't great on bars, but I think she is a much better AA-er than Gabby and has earned the right to compete in quals given her recent performances at Classics/Nats/Trials. I'd like to see Laurie get the opportunity, but I don't think she will. I do think LAurie has about the same shot as Gabby to qualify to bar finals. Not good, but I think one of them could make it in of there are falls in quals. All up to Martha though haha.

I'm just a tad bit annoyed that they're still going with Louis Smith considering he fell off the PH at both the European Championships and London Open (I believe?) recently. The fact remains that he can only perform one apparatus and he's not even the best in it from the U.K.. I understand that they'll need every tenth, but Purvis could have competed on more events allowing more rest for the other members and potentially better performances. Good luck to team GB, they have some very stiff competition to face with the Chinese, Japanese and Russian.

Unfortunately, and I really truly am sorry to say this, I don't see Whitlock winning AA this year. He could definitely sneak in onto the podium, but to actually win is a tall order... with Uchimura, Larduet, Verniaiev, Deng etc., who post higher D-score totals than he does, it's going to be almost impossible unless all of them mess up. He's still so young though, especially for MAG, I can see him going to Tokyo 2020.

This is my line up as well.

This would keep Gabby out of the running for bars finals. (Which who knows if she would make it or not)

yeah, but I think Marta's willing to sacrifice that one.

Simone could in theory make bars finals too--she got Jordyn Wieber'd out of it at worlds.

She could absolutely make bars EF. Yes, it's her weakest event, but she's actually decent. Unlike Aly, who is one big form break during the set.
