My CP's high school squad practices every morning from 8am - 9:45 Monday - Friday. They do not have a competition squad just side-line cheer.

The high school starts at 8:50 but the cheerleaders have to be there at 8:00. Cheer is considered a regular PE/Athletic course. All the cheerleaders on the Freshman, JV and Varsity have cheer as their first period.

Our practices are 2 hours all year (we do football season and competition) except tumbling on Wednesdays which is another half hour. Except the week of the first football game, we have "boot camp" which is nine hours long. It's not all practicing, we do break for lunch and poster making and other team bonding. It's tiring but super fun :)

We practice 6:15-9 2 days a week during sideline, and 6-7:30 am every morning during the winter for competitive. And if anyone cares about excessive practices....our volleyball team had been practicing three times a day, every day. For about like half the summer. I think it's crazy.

It's funny for me to think about it now, because I have no idea how I did it. My junior and senior year I had cheer practice every day for three hours and I was on a travel soccer team that had 2 hour practices, 3 days a week plus games on weekends. School cheer only competed in the fall so this only lasted for about 2 months so I guess it wasn't too bad. But, junior year I had 3 AP classes and senior year I had 4. I also had about a 45 minute commute to my high school. This was 5-6 years ago so I don't really remember, but I'm pretty sure I had no life for those 2 months each year lol.

Yes they have showers but most of the time they don't sweat unless they run the track. Most of the time it's choreography for pep rallies or practicing chants, cheers and dances or sign painting so not too many strenuous activities.

We practice from 6-730 every tuesday and thursday and we got a new coach mid summer so we don't compete. I wish we had longer practices.

I've found (with my team at least) that once you pass the 3 hour mark they are pretty much done. We have pretty tiring practices with little down time. Typically practice 3 - 4 days a week 2.5 hours at a time, year round. Nationals season we bump up to 4 - 5 days a week.

    Really?!?!?

Not sure which I'm more surprised with... school starting at almost 9:00, or the fact that something that is considered PE is 5 days a week (!), or what. This whole thing is insane to me. You live in Texas, right? I think that's got to be the only place on earth that would count cheerleading as a class. :p

What if another class they need is first period? My daughter's PE was always the last thing scheduled - around other classes (and it was only twice a week). I don't know how I'd feel about my kid not being able to take an AP class they needed (or something similar) because they had "cheer class".

I think I just can't get with a sport practicing during school hours. Definitely not 5 days a week. I know you said it's PE, but I think I'd be fit to be tied if my daughter had PE 5 days a week.
