All-Star How To Be Cute?

Knowing the routine, and let it come naturally to you. I've found the girls I'm drawn are the ones who just know what they're doing and are attacking their choreo. You can tell who is not being themselves as their energy isn't consistent through the whole routine. CONFIDENCE. You are always going to kill it when you are confident.

I really can't stress how much I wish these kind of posts would stop... be yourself. Stop trying so hard. Those girls who are super 'fierce' on the mat are those who are confident and enjoying the routine. Don't focus on it. If you're having a great time and have 'it' (whatever it is...) then it'll shine through and people will be drawn to you. Then again, you can try hard and people will still be drawn to you... for the wrong reasons.

THIS. Stop trying to be someone else, comparing yourself to others in a negative light and just be YOU.

That's not what I'm asking. I'm just asking how to be cute. When a girl asks that, you tell them to do facials right? Yes. That's what I'm asking. I not asking how to be fierce or anything. My coach requires us to perform because it is part of scoring, I'm just asking how to perform tithe 'right' way. What I should and shouldn't do.

Sorry, your use of the word fierce in the last part of your first post made me think you were talking about how to be like some of the girls who were doing the most last season. I read it wrong, easy mistake.

I guess like I said it comes down to confidence. Show how much fun you're having. Enjoy the music your performing to and relax. That way you'll look how you feel and you'll look cute cause you're the girl who's having a great time. If you're worried you look weird, practice in a mirror.

Actually, I think it's a very valid question.
I think the "being confident" advice is probably the best, at least for me. "Just be yourself" might work but what if you're really shy and feel awkward? I get, what it's supposed to mean and to someone that has already mastered the performance aspects to some extent, it's probably great to just let go and be themselves.
However, for me, I know that I have to make room for performance during my routine, and I have to start doing it during practice and in every full out later on. Just as I need to know my breathing points, I need to know the moments, when I can interact with the crowd. And it's usually not right before the stunt, I'm most anxious about, for example. ;)
Of course, that doesn't solve the problem of "what in the world am I supposed to do? wave? smile? sing voice overs?".

I usually decide to do one of the above (well not the waving) and stick with it.

When I started cheer, I would always forget my performance moments during competitions as I was way too nervous (over here you sometimes perform your routine only once or twice at comps so there is not so much getting used to it). So, I started to make sure, I practiced smiling as well as stunting. ;)
yes! Okay this helped a lot! Everyone is saying be yourself but I'm a really shy and awkward person and before my coach made us, being myself would be me like :| the whole time, and I'm still not completly comfortable with doing them unless I'm competing.

Practice in the mirror in the privacy of your bedroom. Play the music and figure out what you're doing at each part. Like I'm a back, so mouthing the lyrics during our stunts is probably not going to be super effective, but I am in the front of the dance so I know I need to have energy there. You may think it'll just happen on the comp floor but if you dot think about it beforehand and know your routine inside and out you may get off on counts or confused on where you're going bc you distracted yourself. If you're practicing make sure you're associating each facial/lip syncing with what you're actually doing or a disaster may occurs.

Confidence! Even if you're not a very confident person, act like you are when you perform. My favorite aspect of performing (which I real only started doing decently this past year) was that no one actually knows you so there's no awkwardness about it, and even if you're normally a shy person like I am, you can be someone totally different!

Ugh, this is my problem... I tried out for my college team in April and the coach told me I didn't make it because I wasn't confident enough. Hopefully I can use some of these tips when I tryout again in the fall!

Most of my best performance moments just happen on the competition floor, then afterwards I realize that I liked what I did and I practice my performance that way. Once I know my routine 100%, the performance comes naturally.
Also, make sure you open your eyes wide while you're performing. Sometimes it can make you look crazy, but it helps to up the energy of the routine for the judges/spectators.

Preform when you practice- not just at competition. Make it a habit.

My drive to preform always came from the fact that we would score better if we put on a good show for the judges. Preforming is easily one of my favorite things about cheer

Well I already do, we have frog jumps if my coach calls us out and sees that we're not performing.

More effectively, without looking like the whole routine was a big surprise, is just lift your eyebrows and smile. Then you're still expressing interest but you don't look like a frog.

Last year we got comments at regionals saying we looked mad so during practice our coaches would yell "EYEBROWS! SMILE" at us when we ran the routine

I guess the eyebrows thing is something I learned in a performance activity at some point. Totally works.
I loathe the "mad cheerleader" face. Fierce is not equal to angry. Cute is not equal to pigtails.
