Probably an unpopular opinion, but I don't mind the new non-tumbling divisions. Also disagree with CU's rebuttle; there's different events in gymnastics. People who are great at uneven bars sometimes suck at balance beam.. doesn't make them any less elite. I think it's silly to demonize 2 open categories in it's first year. I suppose people did the same thing with the XS divisions last year... It's a growing sport. It's time to evolve.

True....but can you imagine having a division when they compete aa but without bars?

Oh aly you are not good at bars? No problem! You can compete in diffrent all around division without uneven bars and you can be world champion too, because we know you are not good at it and we know you hate it so you have never have to train bars again!

I have to start training cheerleading again because soon there will be so many new divisions that everyone could win. Even me.

What do you mean? The previously existing divisions are the top 2 sections, just with the change in number of boys. Curious to see if USASF makes that change as well.

I was confused because it said "Open" not "International".

So there can now be all male teams? Am I reading that right?

There have been all male teams in the past. I remember one that was phenomenal. I suppose before you could have competed with a team of 4-12 males in the Intl. divisions if you really wanted to. There's nothing about the number of girls needed

Yea I don't think there's ever really been anything limiting an all male team in the past.

IASF is drunk...that is all.

Nope not a fan. But part of me thinks this is to get more countries to participate in worlds, further helping the outlook of cheer in favor of being included in the olympics in some way.

I posted about it on twitter but might as well post here...
I can barely tumble anymore but I can stunt level 5. I hate this division. I know plenty of people who have made it onto worlds teams because of their basing/flying abilities. Even with my lack of tumbling skills, I'm sure I could find my way onto a worlds team (especially an open team)
I understand they want to even the playing field for international teams... but this is not the way to do it.
They need to encourage these international teams to make level appropriate teams and participate in the International Summit. Varsity needs to increase the summit bids for out of country teams and lessen those for US.. theres really no reason the international summit divisions should be 90% US and 10% other. Plus why are we trying to even the playing field now?? A ton of international teams globe every year! If I remember correctly there was a division where the top 3 were all non-US teams. Getting off my soap box now...

But the international 5 division at worlds has more lax tumbling requirements compared to club level 5 to even the playing field a little more for countries without the resources to develop strong tumbling...? On top of the 3 per country rule to level the playing field even more?

If they want a division to promote more worldwide participation, it belongs in ICU. It should not be a division that regular old club teams who clearly have the resources are able to compete in and it most definitely should not be a division at the world championships. "Retaining athletes" or "starting cheer at a young age" are NOT good enough reasons, sorry.

If you want to add that division at your local competitions, fine, but these routines should not be earning bids to the world championship.

I see the point you are trying to make - but this isn't really an accurate comparison. You can be an event specialist in gymnastics, but to compete at the elite level you have to qualify with an all-around score that requires elite compulsory skills on all events.

Worlds is a level 5 championship event. If you don't have level 5 skills, you shouldn't be there. I have no problem with the creation of this division if gyms/teams want to participate, but it shouldn't be at Worlds.
