I personally think tucks that grab behind the knee are more consistent. Everyone I've ever known that grabs shins, learned it from a gymnastics gym.

That explains why I'm the only person I know that grabs shins haha. All the kids at our gym are cheer kiddos, I don't think we have any that learned a tuck from gymnastics and all my friends (back when I cheered) were the same way.

I tried to grab under my knees when I realized that's what everyone else did but i felt it took too long since by the time I grabbed behind my knees my tuck was already over. I might have just been doing it slow because I was wasn't used to it though.

I think I heard somewhere that they teach you to grab shins in gymnastics for safety reasons - if you underrotate/open out early/anything else and start to fall forwards, your hands are in a far better position to save your face than if they were stuck behind your legs.
Interesting. I assumed it was to prep them for higher skills. Gymnasts will front tumble out of a tuck and you can't get your arms back out well if they're wedged in the back of your knees. Learn something new everyday!

I guess it serves both purposes - the safety one would be primarily for learning the skill, and then once you're at the point where you want to start tumbling out of it, that positioning is also beneficial.

My niece is spending the summer in San Antonio, TX. I'm looking for a gym for her to tumble at for June and July. I believe she will be staying in East San Antonio? Which means nothing to me as I've never been to San Antonio before. I will be in SA from Wed-Saturday of this week and hope to find time to go and talk, sign her up, pay etc.

Is anyone on the board from SA? If so can you point me in the right direction of where a close gym would be? I truly know nothing other than "East San Antonio" but will be able to figure out more tomorrow when I get there.

@TheVipersMom can probably help you out, not sure exactly where Stars Vipers, but it's in the San Antonio area.
ETA: Google maps shows it is on the east side of SA, so that might be a good option!

How do people balance professional careers with coaching, especially with school cheer. All of my high school coaches were teachers, but what other careers have that kind of flexibility?
CP's coach works in the financial industry. They practice 4-6, the first 1/2 hour the captains lead practice. That's when they run , do warm ups and practice cheers. She has done it this way for years.

This is a college cheer question.

I've noticed that at some schools female cheerleaders hold plastic/vinyl poms at football games, and metallic poms at basketball games. Is that because the latter would be blinding in the sun? It's probably a stupid question, but I'm wondering.

Sorry if this has been asked before

Would a front handspring front full be standing or running tumbling? You do have to run into a front handspring, but traditionally, anything starting in a handspring is standing.

We have a team considering using this pass but aren't sure how they would be scored for it.

Running, the determination is usually that running starts forward and standing starts backward, the handspring first won't matter.

Rehashing this thread because I went on a Cheer Extreme binge last night and watched SSX, SE, CE from 2010-2015.. I was up until midnight..
I had a random thought and Ive actually always been curous about it but never thought to ask until my binge last night.

When some stunt groups cradle from any type of stunt, some flyers are seen doing a "T" motion in their cradle instead of catching their bases shoulders to hold their weight.

What is the reasoning behind this? Is it effective? Is it just a "trend" they had for lack of better word?
@xtremeteal4life @mstealtoyou Maybe you ladie can help ?
