And I can honestly say I kind of see how a choreographer could repeat some stuff. Sit back and think about all the teams a big name choreographer does in 1 year. A LOT. Imagine coming up with that many entirely different routines in only a few days. If they used one before that's super good and are maybe having a mental block on new material that day, they might pull from it. Not saying I agree or disagree, I just see how it could happen.

I agree with your statement. As someone who has done choreography there are elements from routines that I may use for other teams but NEVER the whole entire dance or even so much of a dance that people would recognize it. People pay/ use choreographers for creativity. If they wanted to just do what someone else did, they would just steal their dance off of youtube...

cant cheer athletics sue for copyright law because that team is using their music? are cheer mixes copyrighted? i thought they didn't release their music...that's just weird.

This would be a waste of time if they wanted to even try to do something like that seeing as how if the artist got wind of it they could then sue whoever made the mix seeing as how these music mixers do not pay royalty fees to these artists which is technically illegal if someone wanted to sue. Music mixers need to be careful since they are making profit off of a mix that is full of other people's music.

As for the dance, sure people who watch all stars will know where the dance came from, but do you think Jamie or the team cared? I think not or he would have worked a masterpiece for them because you know he can. I feel way better about him giving them that dance then some other team just copying it from youtube and bringing it to state or Nationals.

No, I don't think they would have a case there. That's getting into a whole different issue, since original artists of songs aren't paid for their music to be used in the mix.
technically, i think the people that mix the music have to obtain some sort of permission. I could be wrong, but I'm almost positive there's something that has to do with like, one big company buys the rights to use it and they allow smaller companies to use it for productions and remixing like this or something...or I think they're supposed to?

Sorry...but that dance didn't look half as good as when Stars did it. Sorry to interrupt the legal talk...but just sayin'

So I came across this high school routine and their dance was very, I mean very familar to WCSS dance from 08!!
watch for yourself..

But I just wanted to see what you all think when other teams rip off other teams dances? Or if there are other teams that had similar dances?

oh my god, thats a high school literally 30 minutes away from me!!

I just remember that the team who copied the UA dance right down to the music got their routine blasted on youtube the moment people realized what they had done. Personally, I would not want to be compared to another team doing my exact same dance, especially dealing with the anonymity of youtube and getting trashed by other people. Also, if I'm paying xyz for choreo, I'd hope for my own original dance. I understand reusing some motions or small sections, but the entire dance WITH the same music is a bit much for me personally. Just my two cents..

i think it might bother me just because, it's FASHIONISTA!
fashionista is one of the most 'famous' dances in all of cheerleading, and i have to say, it looked way better when WCSS did it.
i prefer the 36 girls doing it, only because i think it looks more intricate.
