Ahhhhh. Charlotte.

Been here for 9 years in the cheer industry. Started much like you in a stout Rec type program 7 minutes from the house because we knew nothing of Allstar cheer. But the Charlotte landscape has changed considerably in the last nine years. It was ugly when we left the first program, ugly when we left the second. But on the whole, people get over it eventually. The owner of our first program actually came to the Showoff to support some of her former kids just a few weeks ago. She's down to one team and I'm pretty sure this season is the end of her 11 year run in cheer but she (for being the most upset when kids left) has really taken a great amount of pride in the fact she gave some pretty awesome kids the fire for cheerleading and I know (personally) anyway kept up with cp14 last year and was very proud what she started as a mini1 hit two perfect routines at worlds.

This sounds about right! We left our first gym because my daughter just wasn't getting anything out of it anymore. They would have a tumble class with 40 kids and one coach...then junior coaches that didn't even have the skills yet helping out. We did what we were supposed to. We gave a 30 day notice and finished out the season. The last comp was her last day. They were bitter. The owner would ignore me and was ugh...lol we went to turn in the uniform the day after comp and my daughter wasn't even allowed to say goodbye to her friends. Awful experience. She was there for 3 of their seasons. Their seasons were all half year type seasons. Then we switched. CP was on a team that came in last at every comp except one where they came in 2nd to last. When she got put on that same team again with the same coach, we left. Not going through that again. The director was nasty when we left. Calling CP a cry baby and just plain nasty. We have friends that left that program too and the coach would post nasty things on FB directed towards her and the New director was nasty to her too. I don't get it. Why would you be so nasty. People talk. It will ruin your program. But yeah, I agree, it has changed a lot. Too much for my liking. Lol

Wow! That's a lot too. I had no idea that there are so many gyms. Sounds about like it is here. Lol. There is one business park with 3 smaller gyms in it...two used to be neighbors. Lol talk about gossip. Lol

There are quite a few gyms in my area. I've only lived here about 18 months, so I'm not super familiar with the small gyms. Where we moved from, there were less gyms and they were more spread out. I think typically, you start off picking the place closest to your house. As you go through a season or two watching local competitions, you probably gravitate towards the program that seems to be winning/have strong routines or maybe even a style you like. Or perhaps you chose a gym that has more options for your child's age and skill level. I don't see too many options as a bad thing, if there are better options down the street, it will hopefully keep a program in check and force them to step up and be more organized, keep qualified coaches, treat their customers well, etc. Friends splitting up and going to different programs doesn't bother me very much. Its nothing personal, everyone is hopefully just doing what is best for them as a individual. It shouldn't harm a friendship and hopefully it encourages sportsmanship between programs.
Spread out is the word! None of them are really close to another and everyone's tends to go to the one that is the closest until they see a better gym or better team more qualified for their skill set then they switch and make the drive.

The only gyms super close to each other is the one that opened up in the exact same business complex as the other one last season. Haha walking distance from each other. People would go to a tumbling class and then 5 mins later be at the others open gym and it really hurt that gyms business :/ lol

Upstate South Carolina has more than I really thought. There is Carolina Crossfire Upstate which is a small gym that is 5 minutes from us. That is where we started. Still love them! :cloud9: Then there is Carolina Cheer and Tumble and Palmetto Cheer and Tumble that are 20-45 minutes away. They are both relatively small as well but for here I would think of them as medium sized. They have maybe 5 teams a piece. I'm not really sure what we are using to classify medium or large. We have at least three Recreation Cheer programs within 1 hour: Traveler's Rest Youth Association, Liberty Youth Association, and Palmetto Patriots. We have Rockstar Cheer that is 25 minutes from us and that is our home gym. :shaka: We have 14 (15?) teams (I should check on that) that include one dance team. There is at least one All Star Cheer team that is associated with a gymnastics gym less than ten minutes from our house. High School competitive cheer is HUGE in the Upstate so pretty much every HS program is associated with one of these gyms. That can make for some interesting parent room conversations during the HS competitive season.
Branching out farther there are Carolina Crossfire and ACX in Columbia both of which are probably 1 hour from us. Also CA Charlotte that would be 1 and 1/2 hours from us. Yes I did check Google Maps MORE than once when the location was announced!;) Rockstar Cheer currently has The Beatles (SmCo5) and The Rolling Stones (IOCo5) as their only World level teams. No secret that my CP strives for a World level team and the competition for that in our gym is quite stiff. Like it is really stiff. So CP continues to do her thing. She is relatively young and has plenty of time so she will keep working. With the talent pool that Rockstar currently holds and with the amount of new athletes coming in we are hoping that the gym will be expanding their World level teams within a few years. I have told her more than once that we are blessed to live close to a great gym.
I wonder how far it would be to CEA Charlotte or Stingrays? We are pretty much located halfway between Atlanta and Charlotte.
You would probably have to add 2 hours to your commute to make it to the main Stingrays gym. If you did Johns Creek it would be closer. Either are probably a terrible idea due to Atlanta traffic!!

I feel like every gym in NJ is at least 30 mins away from another, like @stuntjumptumble said. There are roughly 50 gyms listed on the USASF page, but I'm sure there are some missing. We're all relatively close geographically, since the state is small. Survival of the fittest.

The closest gym is about 30 minutes away. The next two closest are about 45 minutes. Then, there are a few more in the over one hour under two hours time frame. Most of those gyms are fielding only one or two teams--usually one senior and maybe one junior.

We are in a cheer void here.

We have had a few gym mergers and small gyms open and close in our area since my daughter has been involved in allstars. We have always had a gym within 20-30 minutes away - that's the closest. Right now the 2 main ones -Brandon East is about 25 mins and Top Gun Orlando is about 35 mins. There are a couple of smaller gyms within that distance also. Brandon (Tampa) is 1 1/2 hour drive. Top Gun Miami is 3-4 hours.

I can think of at least 6-7 gyms across Long Island, all on the smaller side but most having enough teams for everyone to find the right spot. The talent pool is definitely split especially on the higher teams; it is rare for a gym to be able to field more than one Level 5 senior team; and most gyms rely heavily on crossovers to fill out their programs. The closest big name gyms are located in NJ. Any big name gyms looking for a new location for a program, Long Island is ripe for the pickin'!

I'd just like to say, some of you are SO lucky to have so many options so close. There are NO gyms in my town. there is one in the next town over which is 45 minutes away. there's like two or maybe three in the next town past that, about 1.5 hours away.

Okay that traffic would rule out the Stingray gyms for us.

3 small gyms in town, 1 other slightly larger gym about an hour away. The 'big gyms' in MO are 2+ hours from us - 2 hours to Stl - cheer St. Louis, platinum, full out, cheer legends, etc and 2.5ish hours to the KC area - KC Cheer, Fury, etc. The big KC gyms are actually in Kansas but close enough!

in washington the gyms seem to be very spread out...
Closest gym would be Sonic Elite, which is 12 minutes away
Connect Cheer is 1hr south, not including that horrible traffic getting into bellevue...
South Elite is 1hr 15min south, but i remember somedays it taking me 2 hours w/ traffic...
Natural Venom is 1hr 30min south
REACT is 1hr 20min south.

Connect, South, NV and React are the biggest gyms in the state, and they're all within 30 minutes of eachother, so i guess they're pretty close.... There probably are a few small gyms in there somewhere, but those are the "main" gyms. NWSilverstars are another big one, but they're north of me about an hour i think? Once you go north of the Bellevue area, the gyms get really far apart and there are very few...
I wonder how many gyms are in eastern washington... i've lived here for 14 years and cheered for 9 and i can only name one gym in eastern washington... how sad is that???

I live about 25 minutes from downtown Kansas City on the Kansas side and off the top of my head, I can think of seven gyms within an hours drive.

Kansas:
All American Cheer and Stunt is about 20 minutes

Kc Cheer is about 15 minutes

KCAC is about 15-20 minutes
Tumble cheer is about 45

Missouri:
Tumble cheer is around 40 minutes

Fury Athletics (where I coach) is about 35 minutes

ICE (iCheer Experience) is about 40-45 minutes

Gage is roughly an hour

There are more I'm not thinking of but there are the ones we see the most!

We announced earlier this year that we are adding a 3rd worlds team for 2015-2016 season. The new team next season will either be a Small Senior or Medium Coed team.
We have 16 teams this season at the Greenville gym.
