Is it bad that I see nothing wrong with a gym mentioning "we'd love to have you next season" or me saying to friends (who I know aren't happy) at our old gym "you ought to come check it out for next season". Personally, I think the line is only crossed when an athlete is asked to leave mid season.
With the complete lack of off season, when are business supposed to try to grow? <<<<< sincere question.
No, I don't think there is anything wrong with you speaking to friends about it and I don't consider that recruiting. My line gets drawn when it's coaches/owners, mid season, and/or promises are made if the switch happens. As a coach, I will not initiate any conversation about switching. I will answer any questions I'm asked, but I won't start the conversation.

Recruiting is just plain wrong, and parent's of athletes that are changing gyms recruiting? Let's just say that there should be a special area of Hell for them. I hadn't even thought of that but I can see where that would not be welcome. Thank you for making that point.

I think a gym that tried to intimidate an athelete into staying or removed an athlete right before world's over a rumor that they were switching after the end of the season would deserve a much worse spot in hell than parents who tried to recruit others to leave.

If I change from one cell phone provider to another, is it wrong for me to tell my friends about the good deal that I got w/ the new provider or how much better their service is? Why is AS cheer any different? The best defense against your competition is having a great product - if you're that scared that others will leave just by finding out about an alternative, you really must not be keeping your customers happy.

I completely agree. I wasn't meaning to single out the parent recruiting issue. Coaches recruiting is crappy as well.

I am personally quite open about my plans cheer wise as while my current gym is nice its not the best fit for me but I am committed until the season ends in July. While some people know I would never activity recruit for another gym. However if someone asked me what a gym was like I would tell them my opinion and tell them to check to see if its the right fit for them.

Gyms offering free tuition/scholarships to athletes w/ level 5 skills? Really? Wow. I must live in the wrong area cause I don't think that happens around here. I could see maybe talented boys getting a break cause they are in demand (that happens w/ boys in dance), but I don't know about girls. Are these teams at are desperate for level 5 athletes so they can boast about a world's program?

Trust me it happens WAY more than you think. Not just boys either. As coaches we hear/know about it but we rarely call a program officially out on it because there are no official rules that say you cant do it. It becomes an issue of ethics vs law.

Nothing missed here. The user @Cheerfan1234 recycled my words in a very unflattering way. I take that as a not so thinly veiled insinuation in my direction.

If you read closely, I wasn't even referring to you but rather paraphrasing your words to describe a situation involving coaches...You did end by saying you were going to send this post to friends from other gyms who you'd like to nudge to the greener pasture, which is exactly what many people are saying they do not appreciate, but again, the example involved coaches. Sorry if you took it the wrong way.
