Funny you mention this, I just had to give a friend a pep talk Friday in regards to wearing shorts and her company's summer outing. It was definitely casual dress, at a park, around water and not to mention in 100+ SC heat. She was nervous about the shorts even though the invite specifically mentioned they were ok. She ended up in yellow, longer, chino style shorts and said most people there were in similar outfits. I think once you get there and see others in similar attire you'll be ok!

I don't have longer, chino style shorts :( If I did I would totally do that though!

It's "only" going to be 85 here tomorrow and the humidity doesn't look *that* bad, so I'll just suck it up and see what other people are wearing for next year.

Unrelated, but also counting amongst things I've been asked to do that I can't bring myself to do, I have been invited to a baby shower where they're requesting the gifts not be wrapped. They're going to instead be put on display so that we may spend more time visiting and chatting instead of watching the mom-to-be open gifts.

The stupid shower is already 4 hours long. There's plenty of time to open gifts. I just can't bring myself to bring them unwrapped. Maybe I'll stick the smaller gifts in a gift bag and if they want to take them out to display them, that's their prerogative. But just walking in with the bouncy chair (which is fairly big) unwrapped feels so wrong to me.

lol just replying to everything you say today!

but my stepsister did this with her wedding shower. it was FIVE HOURS without opening gifts. (sit-down, multiple course meal event at a restaurant) Most people "wrapped" their gifts with the clear cellophane type stuff with a bow on top, so she'd still have to open it when she got home but everyone could see. I know you said you have a big box though, so IDK. put a bow on it?

Honestly, while I don't love sitting through gifts at showers, it was weird to not do them. An occasional relative brought her over to the table to see what they got her because they were just excited about it or wanted to make sure she knew the gift was from them. For that reason, I think you should open them to acknowledge everyone.

A sit-down multiple course meal at a shower?! Holy moly. We did a buffet brunch at my shower and still had plenty of time to open gifts.

I guess I feel weirded out that I'm going to bring these gifts and she's not even going to acknowledge them while I'm there? I know people don't open gifts at weddings, but the point of a wedding isn't to give a gift like the point of a shower is. I also have a few gifts so I want to keep them all together. I guess I can wrap them in ribbon.

And also the whole "bring a book instead of a card" thing. It's cute, but when 5 people bring Goodnight Moon and sign their names inside you can't exactly return one.

I sold a bunch of sorority shirts the other week and one girl took over a week to pay me and then wanted me to ship it out ASAP. I just got it out today, and the shipping and box was 11.65. I only charged her 7.50 for shipping thinking itd be enough, so I really only made like 15 bucks on the shirt that I sold for 20 after overages from shipping and then paypal fees. :(
How/where are you shipping? That's really expensive for a t shirt!! When I got rid of a bunch of my cheer t shirts I used those bubble mailers from the post office and it wasn't very expensive at all!

ugh it was terrible.

I've been to a couple baby showers with the book thing. agreed. a few years ago i found a children's book with my last name as the title. It's a book no one has ever heard of; it's the main puppy character's name. It's actually quite a terrible book and the author should send me royalties at this point, but I now automatically give that book as half a joke. I'd go find some obscure children's book no one has ever heard of and own it.

My cousin named her daughter Olivia. She has an ENTIRE bookshelf with like 5 of each book in the 'Olivia' series, but all are written in so she has to keep them.

Tomorrow is my company's summer outing. It's at a family fun/mini golf type of place and they're recommending casual dress and shorts and sneakers.

I work in software so I dress pretty casually to work - jeans - but I don't know if I can imagine wearing shorts in front of my coworkers. My shorts aren't all that short as far as women's shorts go, but it's still a lot of pasty leg to be showing. I'm probably over analyzing this though.

Meh. I've only worked at libraries. For out reaches on weekends...and staff picnics, I wear my normal shorts. I'm not going to find long shorts that I'm not swimming in.

Wear what you feel comfortable wearing.

Yeah, I know a few people who have seriously messed up their hair trying to do it alone. I used to watch my hairdresser do mine and kinda just copy her haha, I think I'm going to apply to cosmetology school.
Yes... I have been one of those people that thought going blonde was as simply as bleaching and then toning.....
First I almost fryed my hair bleaching it twice to get it to all to go bleach blonde. Then when I tested the toner on a chunk of hair to see how long I would need to leave it in for. I ended up leaving it in to long and it turned a chunk of my hair grayish silver.
I had to go to a stylist to get it fixed and about $500 later, I learned to never color my whole head ever again. I never told my mom cause I knew she would give me crap on how she use to always lecture me on to never do my own hair coloring...

So I am a little stressed I have competition in 3 weeks and found out that warm up is at 7:20AM and we are competing 7:50Am leaving hotel at 6am then in stead of enjoying the whole weekend I now am doing a medal for ballroom and Latin the next day in another part of the country

It was a crew neck hoodie so it had to be shipped in a box. And it was going from Illinois to Arizona. When I shipped a regular shirt it only cost like 3.50 since it fit in a bubble mailer.

I have the feeling you look great in whatever you wear! You look pretty on your pictures! :)

Hopefully it went well. My oldest went to an Ed Sheeran concert with hers and they hit it off great. I laugh because mine only wanted to go to school out of state and yet is rooming with someone from Long Island.
It did! We swam in my friends pool and then went out to dinner and ice cream from a local place with another friend. Then we drove around campus and looked at all the houses in greektown. She's really cool! She's staying at my house tonight before her orientation. I feel like next year will go well. We're both pretty laid back and fine with each other doing our own things. Plus she's not a crazy partier and neither am I (not that that necessarily stays the same once college hits, but still at least she's not one of those "I'm here for the parties" people).
I never had a roomate. I prefer having my own place even is it costs a little more.

I guess I hate people :p Or that when I come back from work, I just want my place to be peaceful.
I'll be a freshman so ya know, need the true college experience!

I'm in Myrtle Beach for a dance competition. Sweet Jesus, I'm pretty sure South Carolina is hotter than any other place on earth. I'm legit going to actually melt ... I feel like my skin is sliding off of me.

I never thought I'd ever say this in a million years, but I might be too Chicago for this BS.
