I also thought about this, like would a team who usually only takes Full Paid bids, accept and at large bid? Would the coach water their routine down so maybe they would hit that and have a chance to receive a bid?

Well even if they watered everything down they would still get an at large bid. Last year there where so many bids given out on the west coast that almost every single level 5 team got one.... Like teams that shouldnt be level 5 got bids....

In accepting only a full-paid bid, there's a much larger level of risk than taking whatever bid you can get your hands on and calling paid a bonus. If a team passed up on an at-large bid because they wanted paid, and didn't get it, I don't want to hear ANY whining because that team did it to themselves. Perhaps this is me being snobby, but why whine when the team could have gone and chose not to take the bid?

A name does not make a team....actually maybe just maybe some other teams raised the bar and deserve the bids they got at these 34586754 competitions that give them out, and next year we might have new favorites!!!

Well if a team doesn't get a bid, then obviously they don't deserve to be at Worlds!! Maybe it just wasn't their year for whatever reason!!
Well let me start by saying that the team I am about to speak of my daughter is not on. So I have no "dog in the fight" as some might say.
This is not a true statement. Last weekend the S5 team at my daughters gym went to Indy and due to a calculation error were placed 7th rather than 5th. So, teams under them got at large and paid bids. The parents and coaches have been nothing but a class act in their reaction. They are even thankful that Jamfest at least tried to petiton the USASF for another bid . They were not given the bid. The last time I looked Jamfest had changed the score on their website but did not change ranking. They did offer to pay for them to go to another comp that are awarding bids, but there is no guarntee they will get one. The previous trip to Indy also had a questionable result but I do not know the ends and out of it well enough to speak of. It was a little more subjective than a calculation error though. I applaud this group for trying to take the hight road. I'm afraid they would have to duct tape my mouth though.

Reminds me of 2009 worlds and Cosmic Rays, the last year they were small limited. They didn't go to worlds because they only had an at large and never got a paid bid. It was weird to think of them not being at worlds because they were part of world cup and had been in years past.

i think of it this way.

small gyms would place higher
therefore placing high at a competition that is a HUGE deal would draw in more athletes and the following year the competition would be soooo tough due to the small gyms having an increase in athletes.

KE's small senior didn't go that one year, am I correct. A lot of people were really bummed out about it.

Didn't Ody have a tough time getting a bid last year as well?

SOT small sr didn't go the year after they came in 2nd. It happens unfortunately.

For most teams, do you think this is a money thing? Or a "pride"-ish thing? Not pride but...y'all know what I mean.

I think money has more to do with it than we all think. ESPECIALLY if your gym is traveling a lot.

Pride also could do with it. like if your team has gotten partial/paid bids in years past and to get an at-large bid would make me feel like my team wasnt as good as years past and that we dont have a good chance at worlds
