I don't follow your reasoning. If you have a junior and senior team in your gym under your idea Wed be kicking out the 5 year olds... cause you don't have a team for them.

You don't see a difference between telling a new 5 year old that they aren't old enough yet and telling a 12 year old that's been cheering for 2 yrs that you don't have a team for 12 yr olds but you have a team for 11 and 13 yr olds so just sit out this year and start back next year when you're 13?

Actually, 10-14 year olds could be on the same team.

Do you feel that the few gyms that only have that very small number of kids should dictate what happens in the industry?

I would say that there are far more gyms with less than 4 teams than there are with 5+ teams.
The avg gym size is about 75, so that means for every 500 kid gym there are 10 30 kid gyms to keep that 75 average.

Same thing if you had a kid for 6 years and they became senior age and you had no team for them? Is that not similar?

I already said the small gym.idea. if you are a small gym you and choose to compete small gym you forfeit the ability to have level 5 but have no age floors. Also you enter and compete in the same division as the large gyms but can only win the 1st place for small gym ( but get to see your scores and how they rank)

But if you have the 12-14 year olds you can make the team sr.

Under my grid you can encompass everyone from 6 to 18 with 2 teams(youth and sr). With yours you can get everyone but 12 yr olds on those same two teams

We are getting closer, the problem with not having the complete overlap is that it forces you to have at least 3 teams or tell your 9 or 12 year olds to go away. Now were just talking about 1 year's difference that will cause that situation. Is that one year worth kicking out 9 and 12 yr olds? Is it worth splitting to 3teams when you barely have the kids for 2?

Um I LOVE THIS!!!!!

Don't think people want different rules for different gyms

I disagree. Otherwise small gym wouldn't exist. People want rules they feel they can be most successful in. But you can't your gym be dictated by one athlete who might be not of age. It happens. Someone this past weekend said he had a junior team that went senior because of one athlete. An entire team had to compete up an age for one kid because he didn't have a team for that child. But when that first major competition comes and they lose on skills that older kids just perform better he will probably say he should have been small gym. My opinion he should have probably said sorry to one kid and make the others as successful as possible. Its a balance, but I think he risked all the others not trying to lose 1.

There will ways be situations that ex out kids for one reason or another. Its hard to please all.

Excuse random periods in sentences. They aren't for emphasis. I'm on my phone.

The avg gym size is what they based the small gym at 75 on, the rest is math based on that number
I just reread your post - I'm assuming "they" is someone from the USASF?

If you are using average as 75 as the determining line as small and large your math will be skewed.
If the avg gym size is 75 then that would be the average medium size gym and small gyms would be somewhat smaller than 75.
