College Budget Concerns With Ncata/stunt?

@cheerheart4life @worldsring09 @Littlestunter4848 many of these statements are not accurate.

NCATA is a VARSITY sport today. At each school with NCATA it has the support of the university administration and athletic departments to include fully funded coaching staffs, recruiting, academic benefits, SCHOLARSHIPS, athletic trainers, etc. None of the STUNT or traditional cheer programs at any other schools have that level of endorsement. Some get lots of support and recognition but it's from boosters or student organizations.

There are 6 schools on the website, but I am aware of a number more that are expected to head that way. I am not endorsing one format over the other, but please seek out the facts of each of these formats before making a decision. There are very important differences.

Sharkdad, you are correct about NCATA, I was speaking more in general terms in voicing our frustrations.

The problem with NCATA is 2-fold for us, 1- is my athlete not really caring for the meet-style format and the vibe, and 2- is the fact that only 6 schools are currently listed/participating. Which circles me back around...we want NCA/STUNT style with the NCATA status. Ahahaha! So MissBee you are correct, we want our cake and to eat it too :)

So Num1Stunta, can you make this happen within your budget please?!

Unfortunately, I don't see any version reaching NCAA emerging sport status without the meet format.

I would be patient, from information I have heard, the number of schools in either format is going to change this year. Some are probably waiting on a final decision from NCAA either way. The lure of Title IX compliance has a lot of weight.

NCATA has 6 schools advertised right now, I would look for that number to change dramatically this year. Other than that it meets all the guidelines set forth by the NCAA today. I would suggest trying to get in touch with actual NCATA coaches and athletes to see how satisfied with what they are a part of. I can help with that if you want.

STUNT has a number of schools participating, largely due to a number of sponsorships by Varsity last year to build the numbers. The number may or may not stay high, but they still do not have a governing body or any school administrations that support the format. They have a long way to go. It would be interesting to see if the STUNT supporters do anything to change based on the NCAA statement. Again, if you want personal opinions about how much people like this format, I can help you out.
Either way, good luck in your choice

I think you are right about sitting back to watch what happens. We had one STUNT school who was very interested, and now the program is very quiet about all things cheer right now. She loved the video of STUNT Nationals on their website, it just feels more like what she already does as compared to the NCATA meet we watched. Your offer would help learn personal experiences in this format may help my daughter, and I appreciate it greatly...another facet of the issue is that due to the small size of NCATA, it seems as if a couple of teams are pretty much dominating NCATA. I would by lying if I did not say that there is a factor where she is like, uhhh do I want to be on teams that will get walloped by Maryland over and over again...and Maryland is a team that will have some of my old teammates and/or coaches....um, nooooooo.

I sincerely hope me laying all this out there helps Num1Stunta somehow in making a decision for the program. My daughter is like MOM, enough!! Zip it!

I'm sorry I should have been more clear.I was talking about NCA, and UCA. I have no information or care about NCATA or STUNT cuz neither is coed or prolly will ever be coed because of Title 9. I may still be incorrect though if their are UCA and NCA cheer programs that I am unaware of, that do not have to cheer at school games such as basketball and football.

Although not what I originally was looking for on this post, I've enjoyed reading your comments back and forth. I think the fact that it's a small, D3 program without the possibility for athletic scholarships anyway, I don't know that I'd ever be able to recruit a team that could be competitive in NCATA... hence, why I was leaning toward STUNT and NCA. I think my first 2 years of building this program are going to be more in line with STUNT and with the All-Girl Intermediate division at NCA. The program has no visibility and no talent at the moment, so I don't know how many level 5 high school seniors would even be interested at this point. There are currently 12 girls on the team here, only 6 of which even have tumbling. They've always been self-coached, and anyone with skills who joins the team is usually done after the first week. They have petitioned to get competitive cheer started here, and the A.D. is actually on board. My hope is to recruit from Level 3 and 4 teams and go intermediate the first season and see how it goes. It's the best private school in the state, generous with academic and minority scholarships, I don't see where I would have trouble drawing in those kids who still want to cheer in college, but couldn't make a D1 team because they're not throwing a full. For this season, it's too late to do anything major, but I'd like to put them in College 4 at a local Cheersport comp just for the experience. I know that I need to get them out there in order to drum up interest, but I can only do so much with the limited amount of talent, and I'm not going to showcase them if they're not ready. I'm going to have to work their buns off all season and see what happens.

That's my strategy now anyway, please I would love to keep this going, and will definitely be posting more on this topic. Anything else you all want to offer would be great:) I'm heading into a meeting right now with the A.D. here... fingers crossed for some kind of reasonable budget agreement lol

Perhaps she should consider University of Oregon if that is her concern. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they just beat Maryland for the national title.

So theres still a chance I don't have to cheer sideline for some teams or NCATA or STUNT?
That would make me super duper happy :)) but then again, I haven't cheered college sideline yet and might like it!

STUNT teams generally also do NCA or UCA and therefore do sidelines as well. NCATA do not cheer sidelines, ever.

I think that STUNT teams pretty much just do NCA, especially considering that STUNT nationals is held in conjunction with NCA nationals.

NCA does allow STUNT teams to compete in both. If you do NCA, you can't do UCA.....due to TV contracts, you can't appear on the two different channels. UCA also has a requirement that you must be the school's sideline cheerleaders to compete at UCA College Nationals. NCA does allow club teams to compete at their Nationals.

Congrats to Oregon! I will suggest she add this to the list of considerations for her decision making process :)

I included UCA because I know Slippery Rock competed at some point during the season at STUNT and I know they're a UCA team. But I agree that STUNT teams are predominantly NCA teams.

Is anyone privvy to a list of schools doing STUNT? I typed it in the search bar, and I also looked on the STUNT website...am I missing a list somewhere? I would looove to find a master list of which programs are doing what format/styles...

I couldn't find a list for this year either, but I found a results page that shows how a lot of last years teams did http://collegestunt.org/custpage.php?cid=984 and in an article I found a list of all of last years participants (but I don't think they all competed the full STUNT season);
