All-Star Amazing Level 2 Teams?

If those who coach a Level 2 or 3 team don't think this discussion is relevant, then yes, we should just drop it.

But before you make that decision, please consider how and whether what it takes to be an "amazing" level 2 team may change (and how that impacts your current Level 2 teams) now that this very legal loophole has been defined and publicized.

I do coach a level 2 team and do think it is relevant. I found myself following the conversation and agreeing or disagreeing on certain points, but I just think this conversation would be more appropriate in its OWN thread.

For the record again I'll state the facts...We have Level 2, 3 & 4 kids on that team.....They are so excited about going to Dallas and experiencing NCA like our Chili Peppers and Beatles kids...It's been such a great move for us because now the whole gym is talking about NCA. Now we have younger teams and athletes asking about NCA. We've never flown to a competition in the 5 years at Rockstar. This is our first competition EVER that we've flown to. Hopefully next year all our teams will want to compete at NCA! Oh, and I like you to Kyle lol

Ok I am super late on this topic it seems but I have to make atleast 1 comment.

1. You have levels 2,3, and 4 kids on the team PLUS an athlete that is on your level 5 International team. You cannot leave her out of the mix just because she only has level 4 tumbling. She is still a level 5 athlete and is on a worlds team who just won a bid. What would people think if Maison Baker (just using her as an example) who is on Tsunami but doesn't tumble also competed on Marlins level 1 or 2 team? She may not tumble at level 5 but she is still on a level 5 worlds team as a flyer. Her lack of tumbling doesn't make it any better.

2. Just like everyone else asked, why does this team have to be level 2 if it is made up of level 3 and 4 athletes?

3. You say you have never had to fly to a competition (other than worlds) but Killers and Rolling Stones competed in Columbus, OH a few years ago. That is where Rolling Stones got their Paid Bid. They drove there or boarded a plane?

*i love the Rockstar program but I am incredibly disappointed to hear that this is happening.

I agree. At that particular point in time though, I think moving it would have been a bad decision, because we would have lost the history and continuity unless we moved every prior post. I've been away and haven't looked in depth, but it looks like someone has started another thread and we have moved past the focus on finger-pointing and on toward an answer.

Registering her with a team would not work if her gym doesn't offer a Level 4 team, and she's placed on a Level 3 team. This would mean she'd be considered level 3, which imo creates a problem because then she could technically cross to a level 2 team. Then, you have a level 4 athlete on a level 2 team, in actuality... but on paper, she's level 3 so its fine. Make sense?
This is a good point, but it is one of those circumstances we covered by saying 2/3 of the team has to be true to level. That allows you to have these occasional variances, without compromising the 'majority of the team at X skill level'. That handful of athletes wouldn't be able to max out the scoresheet. Make sense?

and I am glad we could have an adult interaction about it=) looking forward to further discussion.

I wasnt going to say anything but....
The rockstar j2 routine was sick, but be honest people shouldn't be angry. The skills are on par with what they should be for a j2. Tumbling was good but nothing mind blowing, stunts were where they should be, and they are a beatable team. They did have great choreo in the running tumbling though.

Call me cynical but if you're a good coach that is a very beatable team especially since they only had a limited amount of time, plus it's not like we're talking having all of top gun's boys drop down to two here. If more people worried about doing their homework and coaching their own teams to the level they should be, sandbagging wouldn't matter. (not saying rockstar is sandbagging) the only advantage I see rock star having even with this stacked j2 team is they are just good coaches, I've never met any of them personally and couldn't vouch for that, but routines speak for themselves.

Personally I take pride in the fact that if you watched most of the teams in my gym tumbling right now you might think we were sandbagging. If You teach your tumbling right it should look like this teams, and your kids will progress faster, be safer, you'll have higher level teams, and if you run your business right, your size will grow. It's a matter of putting in the time, paying your dues, and have a little talent along the way. If I had a j2, which I don't, id love to compete against this team and I would even bet they could win or come really close, and if they lost, well I got out coached so it's back to the drawing board and it won't happen again. If you can't hang in your level maybe you're in the wrong one.

Sorry to be on a soapbox but I'm tired of seeing everyone whine about what the 'big guys' are doing when if they learned from the big guys they wouldn't be the little guy. .

You're right, We already got beat by Stingray at our 1st competition

We drove to Columbus..Did you think I was lying lol

The team is made up of 20 athletes from 6 different teams who are 14 and under and the kids who could afford this $1000-$2000 trip. 12 practices total from start to NCA. But only 5 practices to learn and compete a routine for their first competition which was NCA Atlanta. We couldn't do a level 3 routine and compete in 5 practices. I'm not going to debate tit for tat with anyone. I'm just stating the facts of the team. We have nothing to hide.

We've also competed 3 times now and NCA will be our last comp..

drewpate, I agreed with most of your post. But I don't consider Rockstar one of 'the big guys' - those whose name appears in every thread, regardless of the topic.

And that isn't intended to be a comment detrimental to Rockstar, I am just not following your logic. I don't see anyone claiming this is any type of preferential treatment or size-based issue. Any program, any size could pull this off if they had 20 individuals in their gym with > Level 2 skills.

Ok I thought this was about amazing level 2 teams? What Rockstar did is done, nothing can really change that now. So can we please get off the subject and if you really feel some way about it then I'm sure someone has started a thread somewhere you can voice all the opinions you want.

Anywho...........How about them Pro Athletic Showstoppers, I think they are just amazing wouldnt you agree :D

We are in the process of migrating this discussion to another thread started by GreatWhite92. However, those posters that care enough to get involved but haven't yet discovered the new thread also deserve an answer. If nobody gets involved, nothing changes. And ProAthletic Showstoppers could be the next team affected by what happened in Cheersport and will happen again at NCA. Let this topic continue to move over naturally, please.

For those who haven't seen it, the topic has moved to the thread titled something like "How to Prevent Sandbagging".

Not saying that I dont care but just want to get the thread back on track :D

Disclaimer: I do not have an opinion on this topic, nor do I have a team involved. Just playing devils advocate by trying to create the most relevant analogy I can think of off the top of my head:

Mark Ingram, Cam Newton, and Robert Griffin III (all heisman candidates) played NCAA Football... They could've attended a Junior College. Ultimately, it's their decision and their families decision what team they want to play for. It's really not up to the fans or the schools where these players go to school, no matter how talented they are.

So they're the best running backs and quarterbacks in the nation coming out of high school. Should the NCAA force them to go to a Division 1 university such as Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma State or LSU... Or should the players be able to decide for themselves if they want to go to LSU or Western Arizona Community College?
